As the news of Robin Williams’ death spread across the Internet, millions of people reacted with emotional tributes to the beloved actor and comedian.

A different sort of reaction, however, came from the marketplace:
According to the Amazon price-tracking website CamelCamelCamel, prices of Williams’ “Live on Broadway” comedy special DVDs jumped significantly after the Monday night new of the comic’s death.
On the “Data is Beautiful” subreddit, where the CamelCamelCamel chart was posted with the caption, “Worth More Dead…Robin Williams’ DVD jumps 30% in price on Amazon,” users expressed mixed reactions to the price spike, though many noted that the phenomenon is perfectly predictable.
As Reddit user White_Limo put it:
Even if this isn’t a temporary fluctuation in price [due] to heavy traffic, who cares. It’s basic supply and demand. Business isn’t personal. A true fan of Robin Williams probably already has all of the Robin Williams media they want. The people rushing to the checkout are people looking for a nostalgia fix. It’s not an evil business tactic in any way to raise the price of something that is in incredibly high demand with limited quantity.
