Amnesty, Fake Conservatives, and The Death of the GOP

Special interest groups, however, love the idea of amnesty. testestestestestes

Unions. Yes, unions. Noble defenders of working men and women. Except for one thing. They are not.

In fact unions have become little more than profit driven political lobbies determined to keep the farthest left factions of the Democratic Party in power indefinitely. All while doing as little as possible for their membership and the dues they pay. Amnesty for illegal aliens is their golden goose.

Everyone seems to understand that except for John McCain. Oh, and John Boehner. Republican National Committee Chair Reince Preibus? Nope, he doesn't get it either. And certainly, beyond any doubt, not Jeb "Act of Love" Bush.

Will Jeb Bush run for president? The former Florida governor says he’s undecided but his decision is one of the most significant unknowns looming over the 2016 Republican presidential contest. In fact it seems that most of today’s GOP with a few exceptions are clueless. Or they just don't care that they are committing political suicide and facilitating the end of their party - which is why I need a Xanax every time I hear these guys referred to as “Conservatives.”

Amnesty and eventual citizenship for illegals will spell the end of the Republican Party.

Why? Because the GOP has nothing to offer them to keep them loyal.

The left, however, does. Unions. Expedited membership, union cards, and jobs. Jobs that ought to be going to Americans or to those who waited in line and came here legally.

Then again, there is no guarantee that those latter two groups, left to their own devices, would have ensured tens of millions of Democrat votes for generations. But unions sure can.

Having the newly legalized owe you their livelihood is a pretty easy way to own their vote. Not to mention the votes of those dependent on them. And if that is your goal, what better weapon to have in your arsenal than labor unions?

Well, I can think of one. Your political adversary, the GOP. What could be more of a boost than those who ought to be calling you on an issue actually helping you speed up its passage? And at their own peril. Twelve million legalized illegals, and their dependents who will come later and be naturalized, or will eventually reach voting age, will most likely never cast a vote for a politician without a “(D)” beside their name.

Most Americans Don’t Want Amnesty

While the Democratic National Committee and Big Labor tell us that amnesty is a top of mind issue for all Americans, and the GOP shakes in fear and agrees, the facts tell a different story.

In fact, in a Rasmussen poll published Dec. 10, 2013, 71 percent surveyed supported deportation for illegal aliens and 60 percent felt the U.S. wasn’t aggressive enough in its deportation efforts.

A PsyID analysis of a sample of U.S. voters on Twitter representative of the U.S. political breakdown, analyzing #Amnesty, #ImmigrationReform, and just for fun #ActofLove, revealed some interesting results.

Chatter related to #Amnesty was overwhelmingly opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens with about 80 percent indicating negative sentiment towards both amnesty, and the politicians from both parties supporting the issue. Most importantly, more than 70 percent of the chatter was organic and the handles unique - as in they were original thoughts and different individuals, as opposed to re-tweets and the same people tweeting repeatedly on the issue.

#ImmigrationReform indicated strong support for amnesty, but organic chatter was slim as were individual accounts tweeting support. In other words, it was the same handful of people or groups re-tweeting news content that supported their positions. While it requires a deeper look, the top line analysis indicates that individual Americans are solidly opposed to amnesty in greater numbers than those that support.

#ActofLove saw the Bush brand take a pretty significant hit with most mocking his statement, and many re-tweeting news items of illegal aliens committing violent crimes then sarcastically ending ther tweets with #ActofLove.

PsyID then looked at affinities and issue chatter across social media, blogs, and forums. Amnesty and Immigration Reform consistently ranked in the bottom five of the top 20 topics. Clearly, these are not top of mind political issues for most Americans.

Special interests however, love the idea of amnesty. On the left, the Democratic party and unions see a windfall of voters and dues paying members. On the right, businesses in search of cheap labor enjoy 12 million new applicants.

While Democrats stand united on their progressive agenda, there is a fight inside the GOP for the heart and soul of the party.

Conservatives are making a stand. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in particular understands the political red herring and death-blow to the GOP that amnesty actually is. In fact, earlier this year Ted Cruz had this to say:

Anyone pushing an amnesty bill right now should go ahead and put a 'Harry Reid for Majority Leader' bumper sticker on their car, because that will be the likely effect if Republicans refuse to listen to the American people and foolishly change the subject from Obamacare to amnesty.

GOP insiders have attempted to turn Cruz and those ideologically aligned with him into pariahs. This past October, Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) called for a Republican war on Ted Cruz. Cruz is undeterred by the attacks which only seem to strengthen his resolve and commitment. His strategies and those of other conservatives seem to be working, at least in the court of public opinion.

A March 2014 CPAC poll showed that support for Republicans in Congress among CPAC voters is down 21 percent in just two years, from 70 percent approval ratings in 2012 to 49 percent approval today. Interestingly, even Cruz might not be Libertarian enough for today’s conservatives. Cruz came in a distant second at 9 percent to Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) strong 31 percent victory in the CPAC straw poll. GOP poster boy Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) fell short with only 3 percent.

And this is where the issue gets very interesting. When we look deeper into those on social media discussing their lack of support for amnesty, we find something else.

We find views consistent with those of the Libertarian party on immigration reform. While most oppose comprehensive reform with an immediate pathway to citizenship, those same people are open to some type of reform with penalties that brings people out of the shadows. A view that also appears to appeal to that critical 4-7 percent of voters not affiliated with either the GOP or Democratic parties who decide most of our elections these days.

In fact, that group seems to agree with Libertarians on many things, so Rand Paul’s CPAC showing wasn’t a surprise (I spoke to Glenn Beck on exactly that earlier this April). Libertarians also support the free market, and their platform leaves union participation up to both the workers and employers. It is still imporatant to note that it wasn't a critically pressing issue even when further analyzed.

With the midterms fast approaching, Obamacare still causing problems for millions, and Russia reassembling the USSR, the last place Republicans should cave is on immigration reform. The GOP and its current Congressional agenda are up for grabs in critical primaries. The choice is simple. A return to constitutional values, or continuing business as usual and sliding further towards socialism?

The decision is yours. Vote.
