The Iranian Presidential Vote

The New York Times reported on Sunday, October 21, that the United States and Iran had for the first time agreed in principal on one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. This was according to Obama administration officials who are apparently setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran. The same information source stated that Iranian officials have insisted that the talks wait until after the US presidential election on November 6. The Iranians have told their US counterparts that they want to know with whom they would be negotiating.

According to the New York Times, when this announcement leaked from the White House with less than twenty-four hours before the final presidential debate, one must assume that this is President Obama’s October surprise. It is, however, just the opposite; it’s an Iranian gift to the president to help him win the presidency.

The last presidential debate, with Iran in the crosshairs, was on October 30, 1980. Going in to the debate, incumbent President Jimmy Carter led Ronald Reagan 47 percent to 39 percent. When the election was held, it was one of the most lop-sided Electoral College losses in history for a sitting president. Ronald Reagan won 489 electoral votes or 90.9 percent.

What changed the polls so near the election? It hinged then—and could now—on the Iranian presidential vote. On September 23, 1980, I had dinner with Isser Harel, the head of Israeli Mossad (the intelligence organization), at his home in Tel Aviv. Also present was Dr. Reuven Hecht, the senior advisor to Prime Minister Menachem Begin. Mr. Harel had given me a copy of his new fiction novel, Jihad, with the tagline: “In the Middle East terrorists wage a deadly war that could engulf the whole world.”

As Harel autographed the book, I asked, “Do you think terrorism will ever come to America?” He responded, “Terrorists have the will, but not the power. America has the power, but not the will. All of that could change with time. Arab oil buys more than tents. You kill a fly and rejoice; we kill one and a hundred come to the funeral. Phallic is not a cat. The terrorists will strike New York City’s tallest building—a fertility symbol. It will be your first terrorist attack.”

I was so shocked by his prophetic statement that I tried to move the conversation to a lighter topic. I asked, “Who do you think will be the next president of the United States?”

Harel’s response was that the word on the street indicated when Ronald Reagan placed his hand on the Bible to be sworn in as president, the US hostages in Iran would be released. I had no full comprehension as to what Harel was saying until my phone rang during the inaugural ceremony. Dr. Hecht was shouting, “Are you watching it? Harel’s a prophet. It’s happening just as he said!”

I hung up the phone and began to research precisely what had happened. After the November 1, 1979 hostage take-over at the US Embassy in Tehran, the US employees had been held hostage 444 days. President Carter had been working non-stop through diplomatic channels in an attempt to end the crisis with Iran. He asked the Syrians, Turks, Pakistanis, Libyans, Algerians, and even the PLO to intercede. Like a chess master contemplating his final checkmate, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini sat back and watched the machinations. In a desperate effort to release the hostages before the inauguration, Carter sent Warren Christopher and a small contingent of State Department officials to Algeria for face-to-face negotiations with an Algerian team representing the Khomeini government.

The Iranians were relentless in the pursuit of the Shah’s assets, purported to be stashed in American banks. In a move seemingly designed to further insult the United States, Khomeini’s negotiators demanded a total of $24 billion dollars be transferred to a bank in Algeria. The deadlock between the two countries seemed insurmountable until January 15, 1981. Iran capitulated and agreed to Carter’s demands to pay off loans owed to U.S. banks. In marathon sessions new drafts were produced, new documents drawn, and the Bank of England was approved as the repository of escrow funds. Shortly after 4:00 A.M. on Inauguration Day, January 20, 1981, the Carter administration relinquished $7.977 billion to the Iranians. The transfer required fourteen banks and the participation of five nations acting concurrently.

Isser Harel apparently knew this was transpiring behind the scenes when he made his prophetic statement. As he indicated, it appeared that Iran did indeed have a vote in the US presidential election and wanted to humiliate Jimmy Carter. Khomeini obviously considered Ronald Reagan to be a lightweight. It appears that the reverse is taking place in the 2012 presidential election. Iranian leaders seem to consider President Obama a much safer bet as Commander in Chief than Mitt Romney.

Ronald Reagan was, in my opinion, a great US president, although his Iranian foreign policy surprise was sending Khomeini a Bible verse and a chocolate birthday cake in an attempt to buy back US hostages in Lebanon. He also sent three planeloads of weapons. Reagan could even have lost his reelection bid because he apparently ignored the warnings of Iranian Hezbollah terrorists in Iran who had threatened the US Marines stationed in Lebanon. After the attack in Beirut that killed 243 Marines on October 23, 1983, the US cut and ran. I know because I was there; I had slept on the beachhead that night rather than in the barracks.

I have been holding on to Revelation 12:14 since about 11:30pm 11/6/12 – And to the woman were given two wings of a great Eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. The United States will take Israels back during the final 3 1/2 years – the woman is Israel and America is the great Eagle that offers Her refuge!!! America has obviously not been brought all the way down to Her knees – so hold on for Obama’s final four years because he will be used to take us there. It’s inevidible for a Nation under God but ignores and defies God.

sorry, i can’t resist…under carter, Americans hostage in iran for 444days. malaise, you should know what i mean. Reagan, hostages released as he swore in. Reagan is probably in the top 5 of presidents. obama, phssst, obviously the lowest grade, a wannabe, a facade. Romney, so far, a standard republican mediocre candidate. Romneys’ term, however, may test his meddle and bring out the quiet American man inside. we’ll see. ahhh….that felt good.

Being old enough to remember when Carter was in office and how bad things got. I feel like I am seeing the same story all over again and it worries me. Dr. Mike Evans as always sees the truth and calls it what is, we can only wish our media could do the same. If our President walks around swearing and lying to America and our Vice President walks around disrespecting fallen hero’s with disrespectful comments, how can we continue to follow like lambs to the slaughter.

was it not J Carter then President that indirectly brought this Mr Ahmadinejad to power.
i say this as was it not Carter that was dealing with khomenei who was in exile in paris, then Carter at the same time dealt with the Shah saying to both he Carter supported them with out the other knowing.
im sure we would not have all this current day Iran if it were not for Carters medling with the Shah who was firmly in power in Iran. Cater then enabling the fall of the Shah and in so doing bringing back Kohmenei from exile.
now we have a US President that appears to support Irans leaders and seemimgly ignoring Israel.
Mr Beck and Mr Romney are both of the same cult the mormon faith.
This is more like the book of Esther.

It’s a pleasure to read hhis thoughts and while this story is about someone who seemingly could predict the fuure, that mantle has more recently falllenn to Mr. Evans himself who seems to know more than the entire mainstream press does collectively.

Well said, Mike Evans. Has anyone heard of reports believe first detailed in World Net Daily about the Prez offering to lift off sanctions against Iran if they would deal with him? Mikes article confirms some of that apparently, but has anyone heard about Obama’s dirty dealing about lifting the sanction?

Great article. The main stream media continue to give the current administration a pass. Clearly the Iranians are attempting to buy time and are hoping this olive branch will give Obama enough credibility to get re-elected so they can avoided the US drawing a real line in the sand. Thanks to the author pointing out ho the Iranians have gotten involved in presidential elections before illustrating their real motive this time.

Thank you Mike Evans for revisiting the past and bringing it to fresh reality. The political system and it’s current ties to the middle east crisis is not a current crisis but a long term, well planned agenda. The sleeper cell method of lying in waiting for the right moment to execute a plan that would undermine the democratic process of our country is very real. Thanks for the insight and the courage to bring this forward. I can only hope that this is getting the attention it deserves and the public at large can see the conspired efforts of this manipulation. Preach it brother!

Dr. Mike Evans’ article plainly details the black thread that ran through the Carter and Clinton administrations and is now a clearly apparent theme in the Obama administration. Nations around the globe have suffered at the hands of Iran’s proxies—Hezbollah and Hamas—and the president still refuses to use the “terror” word. The “embrace it or ignore it and it will go away” plan of Barack Obama paints the US as weak and ineffective, the bully on the block that threatens the little guy. The opposite is and always has been true: The US is the champion of the underdog, and as Mitt Romney said in the recent debate, “America has not dictated to other nations, we have freed other nations.”
President Obama awkwardly bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia; promised Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev more latitude after he wins the November elections; apologized to the Islamic world for US attempts to halt blatant terrorism aimed at its citizens; rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as unimportant; and has been petulant and dismissive toward the very people whose votes he expects to win.
The president has been lauded, applauded, and fawned over by the Liberal Left media to the point of nausea. If this article were nothing more than an abbreviated book, then Dr. Evans would have completely discarded the first couple of chapters.

Thank you Dr. Evans for bringing clarity to a situation that has been clouded by smoke and mirrors through the media. Your insight, research and experience in this subject matter is overwhelming. I think it is most important that we stand up for what we know will be the right choice in November and choose our President by who we believe will bring us through these treacherous times in the middle east and stand up for our true allies. Because no matter what the media tries to tell us, the greatest threat (in more ways than one) to our way of life here in America lies in the middle east.

I’ve read some of Mike Evan’s stuff before and I’m always amazed at the inside information he has. This is another great example of insight that you can’t get from the MSM and even if they had the information they wouldn’t pass it on. I have no doubt what he says in this article is accurate. Why would Iran want Romney as president who clearly is not opposed to doing what is necessary when they can walk all over Obama?
Evans has drawn great parallels from the Carter/Reagen election to today. Those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it. Glad this article is out there to remind us of what happened not so long ago.

Thanks, Dr. Evans for connecting the dots and pointing out how Iran may be trying to influence our presidential election. I also think the Iran story was leaked by the Obama administration to distract from the ongoing Libya scandal which could be a bigger factor in the election if the mainstream media decides to report the story and the (alleged) coverup of the facts regarding requests for extra security, the now public emails about the attack and the fact that apparently portions of the attack were viewed by some in real time as they occurred.

Of course, the Iranian regime would prefer an apologetic Obama to a strong Mitt Romney who will more than likely be more Reaganesque in his approach to Iran and the Middle East.

I wouldn’t put it past the Iranians to attempt to influence our elections. If they prefer Obama, I could see them throwing him a bone that makes him look Presidential — like he’s dealing with the issue of a Nuclear Iran. Trouble is anything they say they want to do: ie sit down for talks – are simply ploys to stall and defer until they achieve their ultimate plans. I think Iran wants to dominate the Middle East – kick out the Americans, take over the area, destroy the Israelis and then come back after us. We are “the Great Satan.” In the end we are the target. I don’t see how we can tolerate an atomic Iran. Like PM says – why do we think the world’s most dangerous weapons are OK in the hands of the world’s most dangerous REGIME? They are the primary sponsor of State Terrorism worldwide. If Evans’ article is an insight into now, the Iranians are looking for cash from the next US Pres. to stop Iranian enrichment (which they won’t anyway), like they got cash from Carter to free the hostages. But oh yeah – we’re broke right now, cause of Obama.

Dr. Evans’ insight is remarkable. His expertise on Israel and the Middle East and his ability to connect the dots as he did in this story is amazing. It is very difficult for the average American to understand what is really going on in the Middle East since the mainstream media doesn’t report the news accurately or completely. It is even more difficult to know what it really going on in our own government when we are constantly lied to and deceived, despite being promised the most transparent administration in years. Thank you for helping us to see more clearly.

Dr. Evans has made several most salient points in this article. If you are old enough you might remember that after much contemplation and vacillating the Carter Administration allowed a dying Shah of Iran to come to the US for medical treatment in 1979. This was the “issue’ that Iranian students justified the taking of the hostages in Tehran with in the first place. We are, and have been for decades, intricately woven into the course of world events with Iran. The thing we, as a nation, have to decide is whether we want to do what is actually best for our interest and our country, or rather be near pawns in allowing an Islamic nation bent on the total destruction of a trusted and valued ally like Israel dictate our actions by influencing who we put into a position of power. With the rumors and innuendos being bantered about regarding Mr. Obama’s ties to and sympathy for Muslims in general, it is not surprising that the Iranians believe that Mr. Obama would, in fact, be much easier to contend with than Mr. Romney. Makes one stop and think, doesn’t it!
