Fidel Castro's Daughter Endorses Obama

“If Obama counted on the full support of the American people, then we could normalize our relationship and have better relations than what we had under President Carter."

You may recall that last month, a minor stir hit the United States political scene when it was announced that Mariela Castro, 50, daughter of former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, was granted a U.S. Visa. In an unusual move, the decision was condemned not just by Republicans, but also by solid Democrats, including Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL).

Now Ms. Castro is saying thank you to the man who made it all happen - President Barack Obama. In a segment on CNN today, Ms. Castro said she hopes President Obama will be reelected come November because if he is, then Cuba could have better relations with the United States than it's ever had. Even Jimmy Carter wouldn't be this nice to the communists! Watch below:

The Hill:

Mariela Castro, niece of Fidel Castro and daughter of President Raúl Castro, told CNN she wants President Obama to be reelected in an interview set to air Monday.

“As a citizen of the world, I would like him to win,” Castro told Christiane Amanpour. “Seeing the candidates, I prefer Obama.”[...]

In the CNN interview, Castro goes on to say she hopes for an end to America's decades-old embargo against Cuba if Obama wins a second term.

“I believe that Obama is a fair man, and Obama needs greater support to be able to take this decision,” she said. “If Obama counted on the full support of the American people, then we could normalize our relationship and have better relations than what we had under President Carter,” she added. Carter lifted all restrictions on U.S. travel to the island during his presidency.

To be fair to Ms. Castro, it's not clear that she speaks for her father. At all. In fact, at the start of this year, Fidel Castro penned an op ed saying that even a robot would be a superior alternative to the current President. Given the nicknames many liberal bloggers are attaching to GOP nominee Mitt Romney, he might just get that wish.
