George Zimmerman Comes Out of Hiding...to Rescue Family in a Car Accident! (Updated With 911 Audio)

UPDATE: The 911 calls made after the car accident have been released by police.

George Zimmerman has not been publicly seen since being acquitted of murder charges in the death of Travyon Martin. But local police in Sanford, Florida, say Zimmerman emerged last week when he actually was involved in rescuing victims of a car accident.

ABC News quotes Sanford Police Department Capt. Jim McAuliffe saying Zimmerman "pulled an individual from a truck that had rolled over." The rescue occurred near the intersection of I-4 and Route 46, which is within a mile of the area where the 29-year-old shot Martin in February 2012. The shooting, a jury ruled on July 13, 2013, was in self-defense.

It is unclear how this information regarding the car accident came to light. The Orlando Sentinel reported McAuliffe saying the Seminole County Sheriff's Office is handling the accident investigation.

In a statement to TheBlaze, the sheriff's office provided more details about the event, occurring on July 17 around 5:45 p.m. It was a single car accident where a family's blue Ford Explorer SUV went off-road and rolled.

When the deputy responded to the scene, two men -- on of whom was George Zimmerman -- had helped the family out of the vehicle, which held two parents and two children. None of the occupants were injured.

Zimmerman did not witness the crash and left after speaking to the deputy, according to the statement.

Previously, Zimmerman had reportedly headed up his neighborhood watch, and according to FBI reports was described by Sanford police as having a "little hero complex."

Zimmerman being found not guilty of shooting the 17-year-old last year has spurred more than a week of protests and boycotts. He and his family have received death threats over the verdict as well.
