Texas Family Claims They Shot a Legendary Chupacabra

A Texas couple claims a legendary chupacabra, similar to what residents reported seeing roaming in the state earlier this month, was shot on their property over the weekend.

Lucy Ohrt told KAVU-TV her grandson shot the coyote-like animal, which is considered mythical to many, on her Victoria County ranch Sunday. The chupacabra is rumored to suck the blood of other animals, like livestock, and is often portrayed as hairless.

"My grandson ran and got the gun and shot it at 240 yards. And my grandkids said 'oh that's a chupacabra,'" Ohrt told the news station.

"It’s usually got long hair on it and this one doesn't and that's what makes it different from a regular coyote," Ohrt added.

Experts are not necessarily on board with the chupacabra designation though.

"They're a mythical creature that most people see, but what it really is sarcoptic mange, which is caused by a mite that bites the animal and it can be on any mammal dogs ,cats, coyotes, foxes and humans can get another version of it as well," Josh Turner, a Texas Fish and Wildlife biologist, told KAVU.
