Harry Reid Denies Saying That One Thing He Totally Said

"I didn’t praise Adelson."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid now disputes claims that he selectively attacks politically active billionaires, a charge that led recently to his being mercilessly mocked by late-night comedians.

“The point is this: We can speculate who is my favorite billionaire and everyone else can, but the point is, there’s too much money in politics,” Reid told BuzzFeed on Thursday. “I’ve seen a change, I’ve seen a change that is really not good.”

Reid in an interview last week with NBC News’ Chuck Todd reiterated his long-standing opposition to billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, but when asked why casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson gets a pass, Reid said that Adelson’s intentions are more pure.

“I know Sheldon Adelson — he’s not in this for money,” Reid said. “He’s in it because he has certain ideological views.”

“Sheldon Adelson, don’t pick on him — he’s not in it to make money,” Reid added.

Now, Reid claims that those words have been taken out of context.

“Exactly what I said, is that Sheldon Adeleson is great on all social issues, that’s what I said. I didn’t talk about him any more. I didn’t praise Adelson, I just said on social issues he’s good,” Reid told BuzzFeed.

“The Koch brothers, I’m not walking away from them. I’m going to be on their tail for the whole campaign because if they think Romney was watched closely by me, that’s nothing compared to what it’s going to be like with the Koch brothers,” he added. “They’re spending money in state party races. They’re going after secretaries of state. They want to do everything they can to suppress voting. They want to do everything they can to go back to that 1980 campaign.”
