Dale Earnhardt Jr., also known as No. 88 in the NASCAR world, has become the talk of social media because of his taste in sandwiches. On Tuesday, Earnhardt tweeted a picture of his lunch: a banana and mayonnaise sandwich. This weekend, at Richmond International Raceway, the sandwich will be on sale with proceeds benefiting hungry children.
Keep in mind, one of Dale’s sponsors is Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it really is his favorite sandwich, and now the Internet is reacting to the combo. As the nation focused on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s love of banana and mayo sandwiches Tuesday, NASCAR's most popular driver became inspired to use that attention in a positive way and raise money for a worthy cause.
The “Banana Blessings” sandwich will be sold this weekend at the Richmond, Virginia, race for $2.00 — with $1.00 of each sale being donated to The Dale Jr. Foundation for Blessings in a Backpack to help the fight against childhood hunger.
Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit that packs food for school children who may go without food over the weekends.
We spoke with Richmond International Raceway President Dennis Bickmeier.
