Cabinet Quotas? Clinton Promises 50-50 Gender Split in Her Administration's Leadership

"50 percent of America is women, right?”

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton vowed to make her Cabinet 50 percent female if elected, a big boost from President Barack Obama, who’s Cabinet is 30 percent female.

The announcement came after MSNBC host Rachel Maddow asked Clinton, a former secretary of state, if she would follow the model of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau whose Cabinet is half women.

“Well, I am going to have a Cabinet that looks like America, and 50 percent of America is women, right?” Clinton said.

Clinton previously told Cosmopolitan magazine that a Cabinet that is half women was her “goal” and “aim” but the statement on MSNBC seemed a bit more firm.

The MSNBC interview was conducted in Philadelphia, where Clinton is favored to win the Pennsylvania Democratic primary against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
