Gay bars ban Yuengling after brewery owner endorses Trump

More than a dozen drinking establishments have stopped stocking Yuengling lager after the owner of the Pennsylvania brewery declared his support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump last week.

Richard Yuengling Jr. publicly endorsed the billionaire businessman’s presidential bid, and Trump’s son Eric Trump visited “America’s Oldest Brewery” in Pottsvile, Pennsylvania, to tout Yuengling’s support.

“My father’s going to make it a lot easier for business to function. We’re going to do it right here in the U.S.,” Trump said in a news conference. Yeungling reportedly told the younger Trump: “Our guys are behind your father. We need him in there.”

In response, several gay bars like JR.’s Bar and Grill In Washington, D.C., decided to stop selling Yuengling beer.

In a Facebook video, J.R.’s manager David Perruzza specifically cited Trump running mate Indiana Gov. Mike Pence's opposition to gay rights advocacy and explained: “I don’t want them getting any support from gay people. It may sound weird, but I don’t want any cent of it going to Trump.”

Other bars no longer serving Yuenling include Dito’s, Town, Trade, Code, Annie’s, Nellie’s, Colbart, Dik Bar, Stoney’s, Freddie’s, Level One, DC’s Eagle, Number 9, Dirty Goose, 18th & Duplex, Green Lantern, Larry’s Lounge, Ziegfeld’s & Secrets and Kangaroo Boxing Club, Roll Call reported.
