Report: U.S. intel. warns of possible terror attacks as Election Day nears

Out of an abundance of caution, U.S. intelligence analysts are warning of possible new terrorist threats in multiple states as millions of voters head to the polls in just a few days.

Sources reportedly told CBS News on Friday that the new information is still being looked into and has not been confirmed.

"The counterterrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States," a senior federal law enforcement official reportedly said.

Joint terrorism task forces specifically named al Qaeda as just one terror group that could be plotting to attack.

"The FBI, working with our federal, state and local counterparts, shares and assesses intelligence on a daily basis and will continue to work closely with law enforcement and intelligence community partners to identify and disrupt any potential threat to public safety," the official added.

No specific targets have been named, but it is believed that New York, Texas and Virginia are all at risk, according to CBS News. The network also noted that local police earlier this week were warned that "lone-wolf" terrorists could see Election Day "polling places" as "attractive targets."
