Glenn Beck: I will call Donald Trump and offer my support

He stood in complete opposition to him during the Republican primaries and even opposed him in the general election, but just hours after Donald Trump won the White House, conservative radio host Glenn Beck extended an olive branch to the president-elect, pledging to "support" him in the days to come.

And it will start with a phone call.

"I am reaching out today. I will call him today," Beck said. "Whether he takes my call — and I'm not saying he's gonna shun it, I mean, he's now the president-elect. ... He might be a tad busy."

"If I don't get ahold of him," he continued, "I will write a letter, and I will even post the letter so you can read it."

Beck, who campaigned for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) in the primaries, went on to offer "support" to Trump, noting he would have extended the same to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had she won Tuesday. He urged his listeners to be graceful because the U.S. cannot afford a "failed presidency."

"Anyone who says they want to be the president of all people — I'm there," Beck said. "This is the very first time he has said that. He has said before he doesn't need us, doesn't need our audience, or whatever, and that's campaign. He's now the president."

"So whatever we can do to help him, as long as we're staying constitutional, we're there," he added.

Beck's words, which will certainly come as a shock to many, follows an astounding — and unexpected — victory by Trump. And the two men have a lot to put behind them if they want to forge a partnership of some kind moving forward.

In August, Beck told his radio listeners that he believed Trump "is a dictator in the making" and in an interview with The New Yorker published Monday, he called the billionaire businessman "dangerously unhinged." And Trump, for his part, has had some not-so-kind words for Beck, who he has called "irrelevant," "wacko" and "a real nut job."

Only time will tell what Beck's phone call might resolve.
