Pro-lifers to protest Planned Parenthood outside of fundraiser where Barbara Bush will speak

A group of pro-life organizations will protest Wednesday at a Planned Parenthood fundraiser at which Barbara Pierce Bush, one of former President George W. Bush’s daughters, will deliver the keynote address.

TheBlaze previously reported that Bush, the CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps, will address a luncheon for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas on Wednesday.

Bush has previously praised Planned Parenthood as an “exceptional organization.” Her support for the nation’s largest abortion provider stands in sharp contrast with the pro-life platform her father adopted as president.

The pro-life organization Students for Life of America said Tuesday that it will lead a protest outside the event which will include pro-life activists and representatives from organizations such as Pro-Life Waco, the Catholic Pro-Life Committee of the Diocese of Dallas, Prestonwood Pregnancy Center and the Texas Pro-Life Action Team, among others.

Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life, said in a statement that “While children aren’t beholden to their parents’ ideals, values and moral views, it is disappointing that Barbara Bush, daughter of President George W. Bush, is keynoting a Planned Parenthood fundraiser, especially since her father held clearly anti-abortion public stances.”

“Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion vendor and promotes abortion worldwide,” Hawkins said. “There is no amount of good they can possibly do to make up for taking hundreds of thousands of innocent lives every year, which is something we wish Barbara Bush would have considered before accepting the keynote speech.”

Hawkins added that “there will be many young women there on Wednesday in Fort Worth representing the Pro-Life Generation who rejects abortion and rejects the notion that women must be able to end the lives of their children in order to pursue their own dreams.”

Cecile Richards, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, recently told BuzzFeed that it is “really exciting” to have Bush speak at the event.

“It’s huge, and such a diverse crowd, a lot of elected officials, a lot of Republican sort of first families,” Richards added of the luncheon.

According to its website, Bush’s Global Health Corps partners with several Planned Parenthood affiliates.
