An Alabama man has filed a lawsuit against Waffle House Inc. after he says one of its restaurants leaked so much grease and sewage that it ruined his property.
Mack Crook Jr. alleges in a lawsuit against the restaurant chain that the diner's grease trap has not been working properly, Fox News reported. The leak reportedly resulted in large amounts of grease from the restaurant seeping into the ground and underneath his property, which is located next to the restaurant. He is seeking $800,000 in damages from Waffle House.
"The combination of grease and sewage has over time seeped onto and under the foundation of the Plaintiff's building, causing physical damage to the Plaintiff's property and loss of use and enjoyment of the property," the lawsuit reads.
Waffle House Inc. told TheBlaze in an emailed statement that they were investigating the allegations.
"We have received this lawsuit and are investigating the claims stated in the complaint," said spokeswoman Kelly Thrasher-Bruner. "We will respond through the court system."
According to court documents, Waffle House denies that its grease trap leaked and insists no damage was done to nearby properties. The company is also demanding proof of the damages.
The company has also filed a motion to transfer the case out of Calhoun County, Alabama, to the federal court system.
