Cecile Richards tries to slam GOP as sexist over Obamacare repeal — but it backfires big time
May 07, 2017
On Thursday, House Republicans voted to start the process to repeal and replace Obamacare by passing the American Health Care Act. The bill isn't yet law because it hasn't been passed by the Senate and approved by President Donald Trump.
The legislation has a long way to go before it becomes law — if it becomes law — because the Senate is working to draft their own version of the law, which will likely be remarkably different from the one passed in the House.
But Planned Parenthood chief Cecile Richards already thinks she knows how it will end up for women.
Responding to a tweet on Friday from a reporter who listed the Republican senators working on a health care bill in the upper chamber — and only listed men — Richards said women will effectively be taken to the cleaners by the Senate's version of the bill.
"When women aren't at the table, we're on the menu," Richards wrote.
Her tweet implies that women will be adversely affected by the Senate's bill, similar to the House's bill — or so they allege.
Indeed, the Democratic narrative following the passing of Thursday's legislation is that Republicans are determined to butcher the health care system for women, including making things like pregnancies a "pre-existing" condition.
Republican leaders have denied these claims, and said that the misinformation being spread about their legislation is just an attempt by Democrats to undermine their promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Still, given Planned Parenthood's history of scandals that includes discussing the sell of fetal body parts over meals, and just the general fact that Planned Parenthood does tens of thousands of abortions each year, many found Richards tweet to be very off base and lacking self-awareness.
Here is some of the best reaction to Richard's tweet:
@CecileRichards So is salad and a light Chablis while discussing the harvesting of baby organs.

@CecileRichards Unborn children are on the menu at your clinics, ghoul.

@CecileRichards Sort of like the baby parts that you put on the menu? Except the babies can't speak for themselves
