President Donald Trump's chief of staff, John Kelly, was reportedly so angry when Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey in May that he allegedly considered resigning his post as Homeland Security Secretary.
Sources told CNN that "John was angry and hurt by what he saw and the way [Comey] was treated," and claimed that Kelly was so heated that he called Comey after he'd heard of his firing to express his anger.
Comey reportedly advised Kelly against resigning his position as Homeland Security Secretary.
CNN reached out to Comey for a comment on the story, but he declined to comment. The sources added that Kelly was purportedly "disgusted" over the way Comey was treated by Trump.
Kelly replaced former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus in a move that shocked the country last week.
Trump on Friday announced on Twitter that retired Marine Gen. John Kelly would be replacing White House chief of staff Reince Priebus.
He wrote, “I am pleased to inform you that I have just named General/Secretary John F Kelly as White House Chief of Staff. He is a Great American and a Great Leader. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security. He has been a true star of my Administration.”
Tipping his hat to Priebus, Trump said, “I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country. We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!”
