Actor defends his parenting skills after admitting he allows his 4-year-old son to wear dresses

Brian Austin Green — an actor most known for his work in the '90s hit series, "Beverly Hills: 90210" — defended his parenting skills during an interview with former TMZ staffer Dax Holt on Thursday, where he freely admitted that he allows his 4-year-old son to wear dresses.

Green was responding to criticism he and his wife, actress Megan Fox, have received for allowing their son, Noah, to wear non-gender conforming attire, a family practice that's been going on since at least 2016.

Green's defense

Holt broached the topic of Green's son wearing, asking, "I think it's cool. I guess that I don't understand the big deal of it ... my kids wear whatever the hell they want to wear. Does it affect you guys to see ... people talking crap on it?"

Green replied that he doesn't care about the criticism.

"My son, you know, he’s 4," Green said. "And I’ve heard from some people that they don’t agree ... with him wearing dresses. To them I say, 'I don’t care.'"

"He’s 4, and if he wants to wear it, then he wears it. And it’s dresses or goggles or, you know, slippers, whatever," he added.

Green concluded, "I feel like, you know, at 4, at 5, that’s a time when he should be having fun. He’s not harming anyone, wearing a dress. So if he wants to wear a dress, awesome; good on him, you know?"

The Criticism

Fox shared a photo on her Instagram page in July, which featured Noah in a dress.

Many comments supported the actress's decision to allow her son to wear whatever he felt comfortable in, but others criticized her parenting.

An Instagram user commented on the photo, "[Fox] definitely is determining that they be girly with those dresses and haircuts, kids don't decide they want long hair."

"Another Hollywood weirdo mom," another commenter wrote. "So disgusting you allow your son to wear princess dresses."

Another added, "This is what's f***ed up about not only America but the world. 'Parents' not only approving but encouraging and nearly forcing their kids to grow up to be gay or lesbians. Sad!"

Fox's defense

During a 2016 appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Fox directly addressed the practice of allowing her sons to wear whatever they choose and seemed to insinuate that her "strict" Pentecostal upbringing flipped her beliefs.

"I grew up in a Pentecostal household — it's Southern Christian," Fox told Kimmel.

"Those are the people who handle the snakes," she added. "The women in the church are only allowed to wear pants; you can't wear dresses, you can't wear makeup or jewelry, so it's really sort of [an] oppressive environment to grow up in. But I sort of lean left of that now."

About her children, she added, "The boys can wear dresses. Noah wears dresses so there are no rules — you can be whatever you want to be in my house!"
