‘An angel’: Ahead of Hurricane Irma, man gives store’s last generator to woman in need

As Floridians prepare for Hurricane Irma, one man's act of generosity is going viral.

WFTV-TV’s Nancy Alvarez posted on her Facebook page that a “total stranger” walked up to a woman in need of a generator at Lowe’s to offer her his.

WFTV reported that managers at an Orlando Lowe's store said they received a surprise shipment of 216 generators in advance of the storm. They sold out within two hours.

Customer Pam Brekke traveled almost 30 miles to purchase one of those generators, but she was next in line when they ran out.

"My father's on oxygen, and I'm worried about this storm," Brekke told WFTV through tears, adding that she has spent days trying to buy a generator.

But then another customer, Ramon Santiago, walked up to Brekke and offered her the generator he was going to buy. Santiago doesn’t speak English fluently, so he didn’t know why Brekke needed the generator — only that she did.

"She need the generator," Santiago explained to WFTV. "It's OK. No worry for them."

Brekke hugged Santiago and called him “an angel.”

"I'm very overwhelmed by that man," she said. "That gentleman was a great gentleman right there. God will bless that man."

In a Facebook Live video on Friday, Santiago told Alvarez in Spanish that “God played a role in all of this” and “He put him here to help this woman.”

Lowe's gave Santiago a generator to thank him for his generosity.

Santiago expressed gratitude for the generator, but said he’s just glad the initial generator “went to someone who really needed it.”
