Rush Limbaugh shames media over convolution of Irma panic: 'One of the greatest smears of my career

Nationally syndicated conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh slammed the media during his show Monday for their "lies and misstatements" about his take on the panic over Hurricane Irma.

Last week saw the media tear into Limbaugh over his comments that climate change alarmists were using the hurricane to further their agenda.

Limbaugh on the offensive

Kicking off his Monday show, Limbaugh told listeners that because of the media's manipulation of his claims, he was enduring "one of the greatest smears of my career."

"This is all over the place that I told people there's no storm, that I told people you don't have to run away from Florida, you don't have to evacuate because I said the storm wasn't coming," Limbaugh said.

"I did not say that," Limbaugh stated. "I didn't say the storm is not big. I didn't say the storm was going somewhere else."

He had an idea who was to blame, however: the media.

Limbaugh noted that the media circus surrounding his comments was nothing more than a "series of lies and misstatements," designed because he doesn't "heel" and bend to conventional "groupthink."

"I did not join in the panic," he said. "I specifically didn’t join the idea that global warming or climate change was causing this."

Limbaugh said that because he examines issues beyond typical "groupthink," those with opposing views will "come after you and try to destroy your credibility."

The radio host noted that he believes this to be the case, as those who subscribe to the theory of climate change "have an agenda" that they will attempt to advance every which way possible.

The comments that got Limbaugh into trouble

Last week, Limbaugh addressed the way that the media presents natural disasters to their viewers.

"You can accomplish a lot just by creating fear and panic," he said of the media.

Limbaugh added, "You don't need a hurricane to hit anywhere. All you need is to create the fear and panic accompanied by talk that climate change is causing hurricanes to become more frequent and bigger and more dangerous, and you create the panic, and it's mission accomplished, agenda advanced."
