NFL player scores emotional touchdown, then shares with the world that his baby died that day
November 13, 2017
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin on Sunday scored on an emotional 83-yard touchdown pass during Sunday's game against the New York Giants, sinking to his knees in the end zone after the score.
After the game, watchers understood the significance of his response to the play.
What happened?
Goodwin on Sunday night shared an Instagram revealing that his wife had gone into preterm labor and delivered their child early. The baby died due to complications.
"I just wanna thank those who’ve genuinely prayed for @morganakamomo & myself through out this pregnancy," Goodwin wrote. "Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am. Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally, & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family."

The couple announced the pregnancy in September, with an Instagram photo that was captioned, "Blessing from above!!! Psalms 127:3 "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward." #BabyGoodwin2018."
NPR reported that though Sunday saw the 49ers (1-9) win their first game of the regular season by a score of 31-21 over the Giants, Goodwin didn't stick around afterward to celebrate with his teammates.
