Mom whose son is stuck in a Chinese jail has a message for Trump — and it couldn't be more different than LaVar Ball's

Antoinette Brown's son, Wendell Brown, is stuck in a Chinese jail. And unlike LaVar Ball — whose son, a UCLA basketball player who was recently jailed and released from a Chinese jail for shoplifting – she wants President Donald Trump's help.

She recently appeared on "Fox and Friends" to explain what she would tell Trump about her son's situation if given the chance.

What did she say?

First, Brown explained that her son, a former Ball State running back, has been stuck in a Chinese jail for the last 14 months after he got in an altercation at a bar. He had been in China helping coach a football team and teaching young players English.

"He had been there for a year. And he ended up going to a friend’s birthday party at a bar and he was attacked by a group of locals throwing bottles at him. And unfortunately, he was the only one arrested after the attack on his life," Brown explained.

Then, when asked what she would say to Trump, Brown responded: "I would humbly ask for him to help my son that’s in an unfortunate situation. And I would be truly grateful. And most definitely would thank him with no problem."

Brown's message stood in stark contrast to that of Ball, who made this week headlines for his response to Trump's aid.

What did Ball say?

Trump revealed earlier in the month that he helped secure the release of Ball's son, LiAngelo, and two other UCLA basketball players who were jailed on the suspicion of shoplifting. The players' arrest coincided with Trump's trip to Asia, and Trump said he discussed the incident directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping

Upon the players' release, Trump wondered if they would thank him; they eventually did. But when Ball was asked about the situation, he remarked: "Who? What was he over there for? Don’t tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out."

"What did he do for my son?" Ball told CNN's Chris Cuomo. Ball later explained that he didn't want to thank Trump because the president didn't travel exclusively to China to secure his son's release, didn't post his son's bail, nor did Trump fly his son back to the U.S. on Air Force One.

"I would’ve said thank you if he would’ve put him on his plane and took him home. Then I would’ve said, ‘Thank you, Mr. Trump for taking my boys out of China and taking them back to the U.S.’ There’s a lot of room on that plane. I would have said thank you kindly to that," Ball said.
