Tax bill moves closer to passage as key swing Republican announces support
November 29, 2017
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) announced Wednesday that she's voting in favor of the Senate Republicans' tax reform bill.
GOP Sens. Ron Johnson (Wis.) and Steve Daines (Mont.) both said they will vote against the bill, making Murkowski's vote pivotal for pushing the legislation through the Senate.
Garrett Haake, an MSNBC reporter, tweeted the news of Murkowski's "yes" vote Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier this month, the Alaska senator came out in support of repealing ObamaCare's individual mandate as part of the tax reform bill, The Hill reported. She previously voted against the repeal and replace bills.
Senate GOP leaders need all but two Republican votes for the bill to pass.
Vice President Mike Pence would cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie.
