Democrats are planning to protest during Trump’s State of the Union address. Here’s why.

Some Democrats are expected to protest during President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Jan. 30, The Hill reported.

A group of female Democrats — including House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — plans to wear all black to acknowledge victims of sexual misconduct and bring additional women's issues to the forefront. Other Democrats may boycott the president’s address, according to The Hill.

Members of the Democratic Women’s Working Group wore white, the color of suffragettes, to Trump's first joint address to Congress last year, The Hill reported. They decided to wear black after watching the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. Hollywood starlets wore all black to the awards show in support of women who brought forth of sexual misconduct allegations in the entertainment industry, starting with film mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Prominent figures in media and politics have also faced sexual misconduct allegations.

Why are female lawmakers doing this?

“What we want is to really continue the conversation about sexual harassment in the workplace, about disparity of salaries where people work in the same job, and also getting paid for the value of your work,” Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) told The Hill.

Frankel also said she wants to give her guest ticket to the House chamber gallery to a “Me Too” activist. But she hasn’t decided who will receive the ticket.

Frankel also told The Hill that other members may invite guests involved in the “Me Too” movement.

The lawmakers' protest will appear more conservative when compared to the Golden Globes, she added.

“I don’t expect to see diamonds or a lot of flesh,” Frankel told The Hill.

In addition, Democrats may invite “Dreamers” – immigrants that came to the U.S. illegally as children. Lawmakers are continuing to negotiate how to protect the so-called Dreamers from deportation.

Is Trump under investigation?

Last month, Frankel led a push for a Congressional investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against Trump, The Hill reported. The allegations came up during his 2016 campaign.

More than a dozen women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct and three of them have called for an investigation. So far, Trump has sidestepped any official investigation.
