TX-Sen: Willie Nelson headlines rally for Beto O'Rourke and some fans are downright mad

Country music legend Willie Nelson will headline a political rally and concert for Democrat Beto O'Rourke later this month in Austin, Texas, Austin360 reported.

And a lot of his fans are just downright ticked-off about it.

The "Red-Headed Stranger" shared his stage with the Senate candidate during Nelson's annual July Fourth Picnic in Austin. It's "the first public concert Nelson has held for a political candidate," according to a news release.

“My wife Annie and I have met and spoken with Beto and we share his concern for the direction things are headed,” Nelson said in the release. “Beto embodies what is special about Texas, an energy and an integrity that is completely genuine."

The battle between O'Rourke and Republican incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz has become one of the most expensive and heated Senate races in the country.

A Democrat has not been elected in a statewide election since 1993, but some recent polls have shown the candidates are in a dead heat.

What did Nelson's fans say?

Texans don't usually mince words, so it's no surprise that some are calling on him to "Git!"

"Goodbye Willie, I don't support socialist commies! You're not going to advertise on my FB page either. Like we say in Texas, Now Git!" David R. Williams wrote on a Facebook post that Nelson shared.

"Texas and we the people will lose if by any remote chance Beto is elected.....he is a far left liberal and basically socialist! Is that what you want for our country? 😡" Pamela Tucker wrote.

"Just cause you can write a song, sing a song, play a guitar and smoke weed - doesn’t mean you know what’s right for this state!!! Entertainers should stay out of politics & stick to entertaining," Mary-Beth Frazee said in a comment.

But some diehard fans admitted they may not agree with Nelson's politics, but they still like his music.

"[T]he Democratic Party isn’t what it used to be years ago . I used to be a Democrat . But hey, we’re in America and I can be a Willie fan and a republican too ! 👍" Taylor Courtney wrote.

Still, others flat-out agree with Nelson's politics.

"OH my goodness, Willie!! Don't you realize you are riling up a whole lot of nutjobs who can't walk and chew gum at the same time? And they don't like you messing with 'politics'. .... I doubt you'll even notice their absence, but they'll feel a lot more righteous by dissing you and damning you. Can you feel their hate?? (I bet they hated Farm Aid too, huh?)

Oh,, and BY THE WAY, Willie........ Hooray!! Kudos!! Thumbs UP for appearing for Beto. Keep up the good music," Sue Wilford wrote.

"I'm 100% behind you Willie Nelson. So glad you are involved in this good cause. I have always been a fan, and am now a bigger fan," Randy Talley said on Facebook.

What else?

It's important to note that Nelson released his latest album Friday.

"My Way" is his 68th album and serves as a tribute the late Frank Sinatra.
