Analyst: Trump must do the one thing in Israel other presidents have been afraid to do

President Donald Trump has been in Israel for a two-day visit as part of the first overseas trip of his presidency.

Gil Hoffman, political correspondent and analyst for the Jerusalem Post, joined Tuesday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson” for an on-the-ground update of Trump’s trip to Israel. He explained why it’s crucial for Trump to follow through on his campaign promise to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The embassy’s history is complex; while the U.S. has only kept an embassy in Tel Aviv, Congress passed a law in 1995 requiring the U.S. embassy move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in order to recognize that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. But U.S. presidents since then have all used the presidential waiver every six months to hold off the move because of concerns that Palestinians will respond with violence.

During his campaign, Trump vowed to let the embassy move go through, but his administration has yet to make a real decision.

“This is the kind of thing that you’ve got to bite the bullet once and deal with the consequences,” Hoffman said. “We were under the impression here that Donald Trump would be different.”
