California introduces a new single-payer health care bill -- here's the staggering price tag
May 23, 2017
California has run the numbers on state single-payer health care and found that it would cost $400 billion annually.
SB 562, which was introduced by two Democratic state senators, would theoretically cover medical care for all California residents regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.
Where would the money come from? A legislative analysis found that $200 billion in current federal, state and local funds could be redirected to the single-payer system, while the other $200 billion would need to come from — who else? — taxpayers.
“They only have to double the taxes in California,” Glenn Beck said.
California has the right try a single-payer system on the state level, but huge tax hikes to cover health care would be devastating for businesses and for the state as a whole, Glenn asserted.
“You would destroy business,” he said. “Everything would be gone. You would shutter the state.”
