Terrorist attacks in Baghdad left at least 27 people dead, while an angry man screaming obscenities at two teenage girls on a train in Portland stabbed two men to death. The guys caught up on some of the worst news headlines from the weekend on Tuesday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson.”
Muslims worldwide are observing Ramadan, a holy month where adherents fast during the day. Crowds of families gather for food after sunset, filling restaurants and cafes, a practice that terrorists took advantage of over the weekend. Two car bombs in Baghdad killed at least 27 people altogether; ISIS has claimed responsibility for the first incident, which happened outside an ice cream parlor where people were gathered after fasting.
“This is the exact opposite of what’s supposed to happen [during Ramadan],” said TheBlaze's Kal Elsebai, who is also a Muslim. “They’ve totally taken Ramadan and made it this push for more zealot idealism and terror.”
In another horrifying news story, a man in Portland stabbed three people on a train after screaming obscenities at two teenage girls, one of whom was wearing a hijab. Police named Jeremy Joseph Christian, 35, as the suspect who reportedly stabbed three men who stood up for the two girls. Two of the men died, while the third is still in the hospital.
