Coulter's canceled speech is another nail in the coffin of free speech

Conservative speaker and best selling author Ann Coulter has just canceled her speech at the University of California, Berkeley. Because of previous violent protests when a presentation by pro-Trump commentator Milo Yiannoupolis was announced, Berkeley walked back their invitation to Coulter, then extended it again, asking her to delay her visit until classes had ended.

On Wednesday's "Pure Opelka," Mike Opelka discussed the tendency of the left to now respond with violence to the mere suggestion that a conservative speaker might approach a college campus. He also cheered famous and infamous lefties who are defending Coulter's right to speak. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I), Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), and television host Bill Maher all bemoaned limiting speech.

Warren told Jake Tapper on CNN Monday that if someone doesn't want to hear Coulter speak, "don't show up." Bill Maher, who says he is the controversial author's friend and has never agreed with her on anything, said on his show last Friday that the first amendment "doesn't mean shut up and agree with me."

Coulter reportedly canceled her speech because law enforcement told her they cannot guarantee her safety or the safety of attendees. She said to the New York Times "It's a sad day for free speech."
