Mike Opelka recently welcomed Louisiana state Senator Elbert Guillory to "Pure Opelka" to discuss his outreach efforts to minority voters on behalf of the GOP.
"We've been talking about this bigger tent, more inclusive party, and it's been talked about at the state levels and at the federal level," the senator said. "We are seriously working in an organized manner to make that inclusion."
Guillory said that he and his team are doing radio spots in minority radio markets and have a weekly television program called "The Elephant in the Room" which has everything from politics to humor. They are also utilizing social media.
The senator said, "The bottom line is that government should represent all of the people."
Guillory was more interested in the getting the party in shape for 2018 and 2020 rather than running for higher office himself. He said there are plenty of qualified black politicians across the state.
