Feminists and gender activists are now outraged by 'gender reveal' parties

Expectant parents are now throwing “gender reveal” parties. In addition to the baby shower, attendees are expected to bring a gift to celebrate the sex of the child, which the parents frequently do not know until they cut into the cake.

The secrecy is maintained by having the sonographer write “boy” or “girl” on a piece of paper and sealing it in an envelope that is given to a baker. When party-goers cut into the cake, it has blue or pink sponge inside.

Heat Street’s Emily Zanotti told Mike Opelka that she suspected Pinterest is largely responsible for this new required party on “Pure Opelka” today. She said it’s yet another “great way of getting gifts for your new baby,” in the same way that there are now numerous pre-wedding celebrations in addition to the bridal shower. Some are very creative; she has personally attended a gender reveal at a skeet shooting range where the target exploded in blue powder.

Mike Opelka called it “just another shallow ceremony”, but Zanotti explained that he’s not the only one who takes issue with the party. Feminists and so-called gender activists are infuriated by them because they reinforce the idea that gender is binary, and because it’s oppressive to tell kids what their biological gender is, or will be, based on what their biological gender actually is. Mike quipped that least we can all “unite in our hate.
