Free trade is essential to individual choice

It's no secret that President Donald Trump is in favor of tariffs. On "Freedom's Disciple" last Saturday, Jonathon Dunne shared an example of a purchase and highlights why free trade empowers the individual, while tariffs and protectionist policies are only about the collective.

Dunne offered an easy example:

"Instead of me paying Glenn Beck $99 for a yearly subscription to TheBlaze, I might have to pay a - let's just use the figure Donald Trump used in the election -- a 40 percent tariff. ... So instead of paying $99, I end up paying just under $139."

If tensions rise between nations, a tariff might be imposed to send a message, which makes it harder to do business with that country. "That is the outcome when you don't believe in free trade," Jonathon added.

When tariffs are imposed, the immediate impact is that the price for the consumer is increased. Dunne pointed out that individual choice is limited, if not eliminated.
