‘Fried Texas dirt’: Would you eat these weird state fair foods?

Would you try Cajun fried deviled eggs? How about a crawfish lollipop?

Jeffy Fisher took a look at the 2017 Big Tex Choice Awards nominees, the list of foods in the running for recognition at the annual State Fair of Texas in Dallas, on this week’s episode of “The Jeff Fisher Show.”

He remembered going to the fair with Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere last year and eating way too much of a red velvet, powdered-sugar food and not trying much else. Should all foods be deep-fried? Jeffy was skeptical about choices like beer-battered beef jerky and deep-fried chicken noodle soup on a stick.

In particular, Jeffy advised listeners to beware of deep-fried Fruit Loops since food vendors who work with cereal tend to ignore the fact that it can easily go stale.

While he was up for trying a deep-fried root beer float with dragon’s breath, Jeffy drew the line at something he couldn’t pronounce: Pinot Noir popcorn.

“I don’t care how you say it; I’m not eating it,” he said.
