On this weekend's "Reform This!" Dr. Zhudi Jasser addresses the controversial question: was the Prophet Muhammad an Islamist?
The early faith needed God's direction and received it through the prophets. At that time, the faithful could not imagine separation of church and state, hearing from God directly.
According to Jasser, the question would require us to apply modern terms to ancient times. Jasser thought it made as much sense as asking if Muhammad used computers or other scientific advances, including political science. He cannot hold the Prophet accountable to a modern, secular approach.
For the faithful, political terminology does not apply. The language of the Quran is "beyond any of the spoken Arabic of even the educated intellectuals" of the time, proving its authenticity for Dr. Jasser.
