Listen: Boy Scouts board voted unanimously for this controversial change

The Boy Scouts of America is letting girls join, but Girl Scouts officials aren’t thrilled about it.

Supporters of the change say it’s about inclusivity, but critics think it’s just a ploy to try to get Boy Scouts membership up.

“We’re disappointed that the BSA didn’t discuss this with us to say ‘We’re having trouble with our membership,'” Lisa Margosian, Girl Scouts chief customer officer, told BuzzFeed News.

The two organizations were started to give kids a chance to learn, spend time together and help their communities. On today’s show, Doc was concerned that now boys will be too distracted to scout. Shouldn’t Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts both have the opportunity to learn without having to worry about the opposite gender?

“Maybe we don’t want the distraction of having girls around if you’re the Boy Scouts or boys around if you’re the Girl Scouts,” Doc said. “That’s the point.”
