A dedicated prankster put up an official-looking Malibu city limit sign with a message about its sanctuary city status last week.
Malibu resident and actor Martin Sheen urged Malibu to declare itself a sanctuary city at a council meeting last December. In March, Malibu City Council voted 3-2 on a resolution prohibiting the use of city funds and resources in attempts to enforce federal immigration law. The elaborate prank that was noticed by officials last week lampooned this sanctuary status.
On Tuesday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson,” the guys talked about the Malibu sign, which read, "Official Sanctuary City 'Cheap Nannies and Gardeners Make Malibu Great!' (Boyle Heights Not So Much.)"
“Someone made a blue sign, professional, looks exactly like the [real] sign,” Doc described. “Same material, everything.” The fake sign nailed the right colors and even had the official city and state seals.
City officials said Malibu did not put up the sign; it was removed by the time local authorities showed up to investigate.
