Matt Walsh: Here's why Christians have it easy in our country

Earlier this week I wrote a piece about the persecution of Christians in the Middle East. In that editorial, I made the point that Christians in America have it easy, which makes it all the more disgraceful that we've abandoned so many aspects of our faith. There's really nothing stopping us from being faithful and active Christians, yet we hide in the shadows and whimper anyway. Meanwhile, Christians in persecuted lands have plenty stopping them -- physically, violently stopping them, I mean -- and still they stand and proclaim Christ.

Anyway, a number of people took exception to my contention that we have it easy in this country. They pointed out that being a Christian here can lead to arguments with your friends and tension with your family. It may even provoke angry comments on Facebook. This, I'm told, is suffering in its own right. I disagree. These are mere speed bumps. It is our fault and our choice that we treat them like insurmountable obstacles.

In this podcast, I go into more depth about what I mean when I say we have it easy -- and why it's important for us to understand and appreciate how easy we have it. As I explain here, there is one sense in which Christianity is very difficult in our society. But even in that sense -- and I speak here of all of the temptations we face in our decadent culture -- many of the difficulties are self-inflicted.
