Poll: Americans now want government to spend more on everything

The Pew Research Center has found that that a record number of Americans want a bigger government that spends more and offers more services. On “Pat & Stu” Tuesday the guys talked about the survey and why people who want limited government with less spending no longer have a political party representing them.

“What you’ll find here is an interesting mix of ‘yes’ and ‘yes,’” Stu Burguiere said of the survey. “They want more money for every single thing in every single category measured.”

The survey marked the first time in eight years that “as many Americans have expressed a preference for a bigger as a smaller government,” according to Pew. The 2017 survey results were put next to responses from a 2013 survey, and Pew found that Americans wanted more spending across the board for issues including military defense, Social Security, education and assistance for the needy around the world.

Pat Gray and Stu analyzed the results and talked about why government debt is only going to grow when you don’t have a political party that opposes bigger spending.

America needs a political party that says we need to stop spending so much, Stu noted. The country is in trouble when both major political parties are advocating for growing spending for the military, for roads, for overseas aid and for a host of other issues. But Republicans have “moved to the left on every single issue,” Stu lamented.
