Qatar is being alienated due to terrorist ties – how will the US respond?

Some of the most powerful countries in the Middle East are cutting ties with Qatar. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other neighboring countries have accused Qatar of supporting terrorism in the Gulf region.

Doc Thompson and the guys discussed the news on Tuesday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson” and wondered where the U.S. will stand now that six countries have cut ties with Qatar. Kal Elsebai explained the proper pronunciation of “Qatar” to Kris Cruz and detailed why other countries are fed up with Qatar’s tolerance of terrorism.

Measures against the country include closing airspace against Qatari planes, banning travel to Qatar and sending Qatari diplomats back, the BBC reported. Because Qatar leans heavily on imported food, residents are reportedly building stockpiles. While Qatar is wealthy thanks to oil, the country relies almost entirely on food imported from Saudi Arabia. Qatari citizens have been given two weeks to leave Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

The tension could hit the U.S. in the form of increased prices on gasoline, depending on how long the instability lasts and whether oil and gas markets fluctuate.

Doc and the guys debated if the U.S. will take the side of countries alienating Qatar, especially considering President Donald Trump’s strong rhetoric against terrorism.

“Are you going to stand against all of these other countries in favor of Qatar?” Doc wondered.
