Clotilde Nonnez, 56, is suing the French state based on the allegation that living in the city of Paris for 30 years has been detrimental to her health.
The yoga teacher claims that the increase of pollution in Paris has given her respiratory problems including asthma and pneumonia, the BBC reported. Nonnez’s lawyer, François Lafforgue, told Le Monde newspaper that similar pollution-related cases would be brought to court in the next few weeks.
This week on “Pat & Stu,” Doc Thompson, Kari Malinak and Kal Elsebai talked about the slippery slopes of frivolous lawsuits and increased environmental regulations.
“You cannot allow this stuff to progress without definitive proof because it opens the door to just insanity,” Doc said of the pollution lawsuit against France.
If Nonnez wins her case, it will open the door to similar lawsuits and increased burdensome regulations, Doc warned.
“It just opens the door to everybody suing for everything,” he said.
Kari wondered if people in Los Angeles will bring similar cases against California since pollution levels are high there as well.
