‘Bulls**t!’: Al Gore Comes ‘Unhinged’ During Climate Change Speech

It hasn’t been a good couple weeks for climate change proponents. And that seems to be getting under Al Gore’s skin.

On July 28, it was revealed that the scientist behind the polar-bears-are-in-trouble research is being investigated for “scientific misconduct” regarding the article oft-sited by climate change leaders. Then, a new study of NASA data revealed that the earth is actually allowing more heat to escape the planet than previously thought by the climate change community.

So maybe that’s why Al Gore decided to unleash on climate change skeptics last week during a speech at the Aspen Institute in Colorado. The Colorado Independent notes that Gore launched into a vulgar tirade while accusing skeptics of media manipulation:

The model of media manipulation used then, Gore said, “was transported whole cloth into the climate debate. And some of the exact same people — I can go down a list of their names — are involved in this. And so what do they do? They pay pseudo-scientists to pretend to be scientists to put out the message: ‘This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes.’ Bullshit! ‘It may be sun spots.’ Bullshit! ‘It’s not getting warmer.’ Bullshit!” Gore exclaimed.

And yes, there is audio:

So what about Gore’s claims of “BS?” Marc Morano over at Climate Depot — who characterized Gore’s rant as coming “unhinged” — debunks them:

Gore Claim: ‘It may be volcanoes.’ Bullshit!’

Reality Check: Gore has not been keeping up on the latest dat and peer-reviewed studies. Yes, volcanoes can and do have a big impact on global warming. See:

Flashback 2008 Study: ‘Lack of observed [volcanic] dust in atmosphere could be responsible for as much as .18 to .36 degrees F rise (about 1/3rd) in avg. temp since the 1960s’ — ‘Earth’s atmosphere is comparatively free of volcanic dust, and that relatively large amounts of sunlight are being refracted through the Earth‘s atmosphere’

New study in PNAS suggests that the volcanic impact on climate may be significantly underestimated

New NASA paper in peer-reviewed Geophysical Research Letters contradicts Kaufmann et al saying it’s volcanoes, not China coal: ‘Observed trend is mainly driven by a series of moderate but increasingly intense volcanic eruptions’

#

Gore Claim: ‘It may be sun spots.’ Bullshit!’

Reality Check: Gore simply is trapped in the Co2 or bust mode of thinking. See:

2009 Peer-Reviewed Study: ‘Sunspot cycle has a big effect on the earth’s weather’

Latest 2010 Peer-Research: Solar/Cosmic Rays Combo Is Driving Climate Change, Not Human CO2 Emissions

Indian study shows climate change is probably caused by natural factors: ‘Most of the observed temperature fluctuations could be attributed to cosmic rays’

Flashback Sept. 2009: ‘Sun Sleeps’: Danish Solar Scientist Svensmark declares ‘global warming has stopped and a cooling is beginning…enjoy global warming while it lasts’ — Svensmark called it 2 years ago! Sun is ‘heading towards ’a grand minimum‘ as we saw in Little Ice Age’

Flashback: UN IPCC Global Warming Scandal: ‘Consensus’ on Sun is One Expert — ‘The IPCC relied on evidence supplied by just only one Solar Physicist, Judith Lean, to create their “consensus that solar influence upon the climate was minimal’

Progress! New Scientist permits the sun to join the climate club: Runs an editorial today grudgingly admitting that ‘The sun’s activity has a place in climate science’

Stagnating Temperatures: Climatologists Baffled by Global Warming Time-Out — Global warming appears to have stalled. Climatologists are puzzled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years. Some attribute the trend to a lack of sunspots, while others explain it through ocean currents. – ‘The fact is that the sun is weakening slightly. Its radiation activity is currently at a minimum, as evidenced by the small number of sunspots on its surface. According to calculations performed by a group of NASA scientists led by David Rind, which were recently published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, this reduced solar activity is the most important cause of stagnating global warming’

Forget Coal use in China; Warmists now claim the sun has stopped global warming!

Goodbye Sunspots?: Sun may become spotless for decades — ‘a phenomenon that in 17th century coincided with a prolonged period of cooling on Earth’ — ‘Sunspots disappeared almost entirely between 1645 and 1715 during a period called the Maunder Minimum, which coincided with decades of lower-than-normal temperatures in Europe nicknamed the Little Ice Age.’

[Climate Depot note: It is not simply, the sun or Co2 when looking at global temperatures, it is the Sun, volcanoes, tilt of the Earth's axis, water vapor, methane, clouds, ocean cycles, land use, etc. Climate change is governed by hundreds of factors, or variables, not just CO2. See: UK Professor Emeritus of Biogeography Philip Stott of the University of London explains the crux of the entire global warming debate and rebuts the notion that CO2 is the main climate driver.

"As I have said, over and over again, the fundamental point has always been this: climate change is governed by hundreds of factors, or variables, and the very idea that we can manage climate change predictably by understanding and manipulating at the margins one politically-selected factor (CO2), is as misguided as it gets," Stott wrote in 2008.]

That’s just a taste. You can read more from Morano here.

So if that’s not really “BS” then what is? The site Hockey Schtick has a theory. According to the London Telegraph, Gore has invested heavily in green energy technology and may stand to make a fortune the more people fear climate change:

The move means that venture capital company Kleiner Perkins and its partners, including Mr Gore, could recoup their investment many times over in coming years.

Few people have been as vocal about the urgency of global warming and the need to reinvent the way the world produces and consumes energy as Mr Gore. And few have put as much money behind their advocacy and are as well positioned to profit from this green transformation, if and when it comes.

It’s getting hot in here.

Gore don’t get it! 50 years ago I chopped cotton in Texas and nearly everyday it was 110+. Back then we called those days the hot dog days of summer. In the winter it wasn’t called global freezsing – but just one of those extra cold winters. Here in Oklahoma we are breaking records that were set in 1909, 1933, 1951 and I hear that a record of 109 set in 1962 will be broken today.

The Green movement had little to say about two devastating ecological events.

The oil spill in the gulf has killed the Gulf of Mexico and its effects will be felt in the gulf region for decades. The Fukushima nuclear accident will eventually spread into Japan’s ground water, into a southern fishery,up to the Aleutians and down the northwest coast.

Many people in China and Korea are going to be eating contaminated fish. The northern Pacific is home for many marine mammals who will have reduced birthrates and probably face extinction. Japanese in the Fukushima area already have absorbed isotopes of Iodine and Strontium. This will affect the health of unborn generations.

      Where have the Greenies been?

The UPCC is a scam to tax the richer countries and spread it around to the dictators in poorer countries. The administration fee will go to support the United Nations which doesn’t like being dependent on the United States taxpayers for support.

We really need to be doing whatever we can to start getting rid of nuclear power here in the states and worldwide. I saw a video of Chernobyl. Believe me, they made light of what actually happened., and they don’t talk much about Fukishima. People need to know what is happening. I am serious people, we need to start taking control of what our governments are doing to us and setting us up for. As for the oils spill, I remember one of the other countries offered right a way to come in and clean it up and save our oil, but hussein refused, letting it continue on for months.

It’s easy to rest your denial on personal attacks on Gore. Sure, he is a hypocrite and at times boisterous and annoying but the pro-coal agenda is to distract the public discourse led by less noisy scientists. Don’t pretend you know jack about solar energy output and the Earth when you confess to being convinced after one measly google search. The Industrial Revolution is completely at fault. We glorify continuous growth in our industries while ignoring that our planetary resources are finite. We need to come to some agreement on how best to slow growth while maintaing a good standard of living. It can be done we just have to stop being so petty and so convinced by opposing interests and their puppet-scientists.

In steps Capitalism. As natural resources are used the prices get higher and higher and the demand forces change either in the way we use the resource or the resource itself. Eventually a more abundant resource or a different solution is found and so on and so on and so on. It ain’t perfect. But look around. Do you see any chance of 2 or more people getting together and coming up with one solution. I don’t. It’s not that Capitalism is so great it is just that nothing else comes even close.

Yea but within capitalism one must always be looking to grow or to invest more capital into production to remain competitive. Should we really be competing for grazing-land in brazil so we can sell cheeseburgers at a dollar when Somalian children don’t have access to a cup of rice? I think competition within capitalism has done us well until now. We’ve teetered over the apex of population growth and resource availability. We really do need to transcend these silly partisan positions and work towards consuming and wasting less.

Thelonius – Mr. Gore makes it so easy to attack him though. Honestly, the man may believe this stuff completely, but the rest of us are not convinced and to us it is like a 4 yr old crying because he still believes in Santa Claus. We know that resources are finite and that there are very good people working on it and when there are commercially viable alternatives available we will use them. Just because we are not going to hysterically buy the latest most expensive “green” technology does not mean that we do not care about the environment. It means that we are trying (in a hideous economy) to grow our own food and not make as many trips anywhere. Oddly enough, most of the fiscally conservative people are also very conservative with natural resources.

And they want us to go to green technology that takes more energy to produce than the old non green technology used when you combined it‘s production energy with the energy it used over it’s lifetime. The incandescent bulbs that cost 10 cents to make take 3 cents worth of energy during their production, the cfl that cost $6 cost $6 because you need close to $4 worth of energy to produce them right now. When the average light bulb burns only a few hundred hours before being replaced, it makes no since. And I said average, it might make since to replace the bulb in your kitchen/den/bedroom with an expensive one, but the one in you attic, closet, shower that is only used 5 minutes a day or less, isn’t green, it’s being antigreen.

And you can’t possibly conjure up that half-truth without seeing the similarities to Beck’s shameless profiteering. Listen, you don’t have to be a fan of Gore to be a student of the Geosciences. You don’t have to live in L.A. to know that we use personal transportation way too gratuitously, but it helps. The reason most fox news fans believe it‘s unimportant to take our consumptive ways seriously is because they’ve been paied to tell you it’s unimportant, and you’ve been trained to believe what they tell you. If every human on Earth lived the American lifestyle, we would need 4 Earth’s to support us. That calculation is from 1970.

No one is saying the Earth’s climate has never changed like this. The weather we are experiencing and predicting are not abnormal for the Earth but ARE abnormal for the human society we have come to know. Small changes would cause global agricultural failures, major droughts and devastating floods; it’s happened before but never before have there been 7 billion people dependent on this biosphere. The debate is not whether man has caused something unnatural, but whether his industriousness is a positive feedback in a natural system.

Yes it could. What about George Soros? Isn’t he more deserving of losing everything? Gore is a mere misguided brat compared to Soros, who is a true sociopath and truly evil.

I’ve said it before Al Gore & every wacko environmentalist group who propagate the fraud of man made global warming should be sued for trillions of dollars to put these lunatics out of business for good.
