‘Just Like Goebbels’: Dem Rep Compares GOP Health Care Repeal to Nazi Propaganda Machine

If members of Congress are actively trying to tone down their heated political rhetoric, Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., apparently didn’t get the memo. During a floor speech Wednesday, the Tennessee Democrat compared Republican claims about the health care overhaul law to lies perpetrated by German Nazis that led to the Holocaust.
Cohen, who is Jewish, made the remarks as the House debates H.R. 2, the GOP’s bill to repeal the law.
“They don’t like the truth so they summarily dismiss it,” he said. “They say it’s a government takeover of healthcare. A big lie just like [Nazi propaganda minister Joseph] Goebbels. You say it enough and you repeat the lie, repeat the lie, repeat the lie until eventually people believe it.”

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 6:43pmSo this thing was passed in the middle of the night, with the majority of Americans against it. Anyone who spoke out against it at those “Town Hall” meetings was set upon by people, very much like the Brown Shirts of the 1930′s and shouted down. In fact, those same “Brown Shirts” who demanded everyone accept it later tried to get themselves removed from the Legislation. When that failed, they got a excemption from Obama, so they really had no dog in the fight but were there to provide muscle.
But it‘s the Republicans that are acting like Nazi’s?

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 6:38pmThe one thing about the democrat/progressives is that they repeatedly make charges that are in reality not about the “other guy” but are truths about themselves. In psychology it is called “projection”. Obama care IS about nazi philosophy being imposed on the American people. Repeal of the act is true freedom. With respect to corporations, there is no Republicorp. There IS a Obamacorp forming. I find it most interesting that all of GoldmanSachs commercials now talk about “progress”. It has become a machine to promote the “progressive” message.
Thank you to all in the House who voted to repeal this nightmare piece of legislation.

That is an excellent analogy! And, don’t forget, the Leftists want to piss us off enough to start a riot. That would be disastrous for the entire United States. Obama would declare martial law and send his REPUBLICAN HOUSE and Senate home for six months — just enough time to put people in place and take over the government of the United States.

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 7:29pmIt was not the tone of politics that caused the shooting in AZ- that is a red herring. Some of the media and pundits crying for a more civil tone were the very ones who were not ‘toning’ it down during the Bush years. Civil debate is ideal but we don’t need to ‘police’ speech in America. Name calling and making references to your opponent being a Nazi is the last desperation of a person who either has no debate skills or knows they are losing the debate. Robust debate is American and I submit most Americans understand political terminology as opposed to calls for violence. They also understand some people are not smart enough to debate and need to resort to name calling. I feel sorry to the district Cohen represents. Perhaps they can do better next time.

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 9:47pmComparisons of the Nazis and Holocaust are getting old and meaningless, and offensively trivialize the actions of what many consider the most evil man in history (although I think Stalin and a few others give him a run for the money). Okay the comments are just as pathetic as the 100s of times Beck and Limbaugh have compared Obama and liberal to Hitler, not to mention the people here. Let’s call it even.
But his point was that the argument that Republicans are making to the public against Universal Health Care is like Alice in Wonderland or whatever metaphor you choose. Read this from the relatively conservative Washington Post. And I’d be happy to link Politifact and Factcheck and any number of other fact checkers out there. Even Obama would like to see a few things changed, but the arguments you are hearing from Republicans that are smart enough to know dang well they are making stuff up to support their corporate donors have been debunked so many time it’s pathetic for me to send you another one:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2011/01/battle_over_health_care.html
Maybe it is true that if you hear the words “government takevoer of healthcare” you’ll believe it. Maybe it’s true that if you say the same thing over and over again that people will believe it despite objective evidence to the contrary.

This current “Health Care” Act would eventually add 50 new federal agencies on Capitol Hill. These are the so-called “jobs” that Democrats say would be created… Not private sector jobs; but government jobs!
Republicans can draw up a simple 2 or 3-page bill with common sense ways to lower costs and therefore expand health care for all… Like any product, the more competition, the lower the prices. This can be done based on our free market system; not through the expansion of government!

The repeat a lie tactic wasn’t started by Nazis. It wasn’t even invented by the progressives or Edward Bernays as Beck believes. The original concept comes from Vladimir Lenin, the father of Communism. He said, “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.” back around 1900.
So without knowing it, Cohen quoted someone who is likely one of his heroes!
But it is the ONE lesson liberals learned for the Nam era.
