When New York Giants defensive end Dave Tollefson suffered a knee injury during last Sunday’s match against the Philadelphia Eagles, the last person he probably expected to meet him and the team’s medical staff in the locker room was his mom, Debra Crocker. But after Crocker traveled 3,000 miles to watch her son play, she was not about to watch him sit out the rest of the game.
“Tape it up! I didn’t fly here from California to watch you ride the pines!” Mrs. Crocker said.
“She was like ‘What are you doing?’” Tollefson told the New York Daily News. “I said, ‘Mom, I’m hurt.’ She said, ‘I don’t give a [expletive]. Get it taped up and get the hell in there! I don’t want to hear this.’”
Yahoo’s Shutdown Corner sports blog speculates that Crocker may have watched the “Lombardi” documentary one too many times.
In the end, her son was diagnosed with a sprained MCL and will have to miss this Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. But having to sit out a game doesn‘t seem to be Tollefson’s biggest concern.
“My mom is disappointed that I’m not playing [this Sunday],” he said. “I don’t want to disappoint my mom.”
