‘Unbelievable Moment’: GOP Lawmakers Chant ‘Fire Him’ Over Top Staffer’s Secret E-Mails

House Republicans Call for Firing of Republican Study Committee Executive Director Paul Teller

GOP Rep. Jim Jordan

House Republicans were up in arms this morning, as they came together to call for the firing of Paul Teller, the executive director of the Republican Study Committee (RSC). The offense? Teller was caught sending e-mails to outside conservative groups, urging them to put pressure on the GOP to vote against House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) debt proposal. Politico has more:

Infuriated by the e-mails from…Teller…members started chanting “Fire him, fire him!” while Teller stood silently at a closed-door meeting of House Republicans.

…Teller and other RSC aides sent a Tuesday e-mail to outside conservatives seeking to “kill the Boehner deal.” The RSC emails were sent to a listserv with conservative activists.

“We need statements coming up to the Hill every hour of the day in mounting opposition to the plan,” RSC staffer Wesley Goodman wrote to a Google email group called “CutCapBalance.” That group included Teller.

One Republican insider said that the entire spectacle was “an unbelievable moment” and explained that it was something that had never been seen before. The chairman of the RSC, Rep. Jim Jordan, opposes Boehner’s plan, though he apologized for what occurred. Jordan, too, was a target of his fellow Republicans’ anger. Roll Call reports:

The GOP rank and file tore into Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (Ohio) on Wednesday for his role in coordinated attacks on Republicans who have backed Speaker John Boehner’s (Ohio) debt limit proposal.

Jordan, among other conservatives, doesn‘t believe that Boehner’s plan goes far enough in curbing government spending. Thus, the e-mails that were sent showcased Republicans asking outside political activists to help them defeat their fellow GOP counterparts (i.e. those who support Boehner’s plan). Below, watch Jordan explain his opposition to the plan in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer:

Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) was one of the individuals attacked in the e-mails. At the meeting, he stood up and read the e-mail message out loud. Then, he demanded that Teller explain his actions. Additionally, Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.), also an RSC member who was targeted, indicated she may leave the caucus and said the following:

“Yet when it comes time for a little bit of compromise on the RSC’s part, they’re not willing to compromise. And that’s just not the way to go about this.”

In summary, the Republicans who were named in the e-mails were less than pleased that their RSC member dues were turned around and used to attack them. With the House hoping to bring Boehner’s package to the floor on Thursday, this entire situation has been an unneeded wrench thrown in during a difficult and sensitive time. In addition to the partisan bickering occurring across the aisle, it seems there is angst within the GOP as well.

I’d like a list of those who chanted. We should be chanting “Fire Them!”

Cut, Cap & Balance is a scam, my fellow Conservatives. Please, PLEASE, pay attention:

Most states currently have some form of a Balanced Budget Ammendment, yet most states are currently running huge debts. My goodness! How can that be?

Because the ammendments are bull. Missouri (my state) says we can’t spend money unless we issue a 25 year bond to pay for the expenditure. Get it? Spend today, collect 2.5 decades from now. Great idea, right? RIGHT?

Please, guys. Republican who support CC&B are part of the problem. Either they are knowingly maintaining the status quo, or they don’t understand basic Constitutional concepts.

CC&B does nothing to help our country. It’s part of THE SHOW. The only way out is to CUT SPENDING, or optionally start selling off public properties to private interests. Selling some of your crap off to get out of debt is not a new concept.

CC&B is better than nothing, it would get every state in the nation thinking about spending since not only would Obama be on the ballot in 2012, the amendment to require a balanced budget would be there. The overwhelming majority of voters will vote for balanced budget amendment, most of those will realize for it to do any good, Obama must go. Might not pass 3/4th of the states by the 2/3rds required to pass it, but it will make sure there is no way in hell Obama will carry very many by 50%.

I think we should still pass an amendment to make it harder on them to do so. I would settle for a pledge from conservatives to pursue one aggressivly after winning 2012. It is up to us to make sure they do it.

      Getperks,

I think the Balanced Budget Ammendment is a complete waste of time. It won’t slow them down for a millisecond.

An informed citizenry, who holds their elected officials accountable is our only true recourse. We must demand fiscal responsibility. I agree we’re not going to get it from this group. That’s the whole point, man.

No matter what, John Bohner is going to sell us out to the Obama Administration. Don’t lose heart, man. Get angry. Remember what happened.

Make phone calls, send e-mails, and talk to your friends and relatives. Vote the rest of these douches out next election.

Honestly guys, I’m getting really upset at some folks I thought were Tea Party Conservatives, like Bachman and Akin. Both are supporting this CC&B nonsense. Both supported Bohner‘s plan to INCREASE Obama’s spending limit!

Think about that. Bachman (whom I’ve liked very much until recently) and Todd Akin (who’s side-by-side with Bachman at several Tea Party events) talked a good game until recently.

Either these characters are part of the problem (maybe), or they just aren’t truely Constitutionalists. They’ve gotten caught up in populist BS instead of holding to core principles.

God, I am BEGGING you guys to get educated on the Constitution and history. If you really are a follower of Beck, you have to understand this stuff on its most fundamental level.

Millions who voted last time for Obama because they were scared to be called racists will come out and vote for the balanced budget amendment, they will realize they can’t vote for that and vote for Obama since the 2 are completely at odds and they will vote against Obama. We should work to repeal the 15th, 16th and 17th Amendments to the Constitution. The 17th would put Senatorial elections back in each State Legislatures hands and allow the states to have a voice again in Washington. The Senators would be taking their marching orders from their respective states legislatures instead of being 6 year Representatives. Yes, you’re correct. George Bush was a Progressive. He was a disaster as a president.

I didn’t bother starting my own media outlet during that time. It’s true. I’m sorry.

I did constantly complain about him, though. I complained that the Republicans put John McCain to run against Obama. McCain was just another Progressive – slowly turn the heat up on the pot of water, and the frog will let you cook him alive.

Where were YOU at that time, though? What did YOU do to change things?

So what. You’re comments are intended to inflame, because you assume Conservatives were in love with George Bush. We weren’t. We were just disgusted even more by the choice presented by the Democrats. So what?

What’s your danged point? What have you proven, except you throw rocks and offer nothing constructive to the discussion?

We need to pass something. As much as I hate to say it, Obama is in a win win situation. He’s playing to the masses as the good intentioned middle man. Just look at his speech the other night. By playing the middle road, asking everyone to compromise, (even though his idea of compromise is come on republicans just do it our way), he’s making it look like a bipartisan effort. Meanwhile were going after eachother in our own party. If we pass a bill suggested by the dems then obama wins because “his cry for bipartisanship” is what allowed it to pass. And if a bill doesnt pass, he STILL wins because the bill didn’t pass despite his bipartisan efforts all because of the “rich fat cat” republicans. Last I checked I make WAY under $250,000 a year. But it still doesnt make it right.

Smaller federal government, cut the spending and start making the transition to the way things are supposed to be. None of this welfare hand out state anymore.

We must have a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget law or else we’ll keep on having these worthless, lying, thieves in government running amok with our money. We must reduce the size of our vastly over blown government. We must get rid of the ultra corrupt and communist infiltrated unions. I, for one, didn’t expect it – I knew they could only do so much right now. We can’t really get the things we want unless we win in 2012 – the Senate & Presidency. We have seen this kind of ‘compromise’ before and that is why conservatives are holding Republican representative’s feet to the fire on the debt. This kind of ‘compromise’ is how we got here in the first place. Boehner’s latest plan stinks and even HE is revamping it to have more spending cuts. His one point something trillion in cuts is a long ways from the four point something that was spoken of in the beginning. And even 4 or 5 trillion in cuts is not enough anyway. No wonder conservatives are up in arms.
I think the plan to do a temporary compromise “fix” until Republicans win the White House and Senate in 2012, and then do something, is pretty darn risky. What if Republicans don’t win? And if you think about it, if Boehner compromises conservative principles/constituents and doesn’t make significant cuts in the debt now, the party will be divided and will have a harder time winning in 2012.
Boehner WAS saying that ”now is the time”. So what happened?…….Sounds like he is caving in to me and others……………

“No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President …”

Obama’s father precluded his being a “natural born citizen” meaning born on U.S. soil of U.S. citizen parents; he is further ineligible by dual citizenship for being born a British citizen pursuant to the British Nationality Act of 1948, as his father was a British citizen of colonial Kenya.[1]

MINOR V. HAPPERSETT IS BINDING PRECEDENT AS TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL DEFINITION OF A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.[2]

And just how is that “racist”? He may have some of the information wrong, but he doesn’t even discuss race or the KKK like you do. Actually, Obama’s mistake was in not formally relinquishing his Indonesian and British citizenship when he turned 18. I bet that’s why he refuses to release information on how he applied to Occidental College. I bet he applied as a foreign national.

HERE IS THE ONLY PLAN THAT WORKS:

      1) CUT

      2) CAP

      3) BALANCE

(Any other plan is political posturing, at best)

I couldn’t agree with you more. Col West is a great leader. He is what is needed in DC. Could you imagine President West and Vice President Christie. Now That is leadership.

I didn’t cast my vote for the Republicans last November for them to compromise.

CUT the guts out of the federal spending spree.
      After that Impeach Obama.

You mean someone we all respect?
You mean someone that doesn’t lie?
You mean someone that hires people who look out for the people first?

I worry that the person you are talking about is about 4 years old and will eventually get to a position of power in about 30 years.
