‘We‘re Going to Release It If You Don’t Withdraw’: New Mexico Officials Charged With Blackmailing Rival Using Stripper

Two city officials in Sunland Park, New Mexico have given new meaning to the phrase “dirty sexy politics” by sending a stripper (with a hidden camera) into an opponent’s office to give him a lap dance and then trying to use the video of the event to blackmail him out of running. They are now facing charges for this act.
According to Talking Points Memo, Sunland Park Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Salinas and City Manager Jaime Aguilera each face counts of extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion, evidence tampering, and conspiracy to commit evidence tampering, all third or fourth-degree felonies. The Huffington Post has a censored copy of the video that was found on Aguilera’s computer at city hall showing the arranged extortionate lap dance:
Both men are denying any involvement with the act officially, and have pleaded not guilty. However, even if they somehow beat the rap on this particular charge, this may be only the beginning, as the District Attorney says the “number of people who have come forward [with charges against Salinas and Aguilera] is enormous.” Gerardo Hernandez, the victim, says he plans to remain in the race despite the temporary bad press.
This is not the first time Aguilera has been arrested, as he has a 2004 conviction for fraud in California under his belt. Nor is this the first time that Sunland Park has been rocked by scandal – a commentator at NMPolitics.net calls the town’s population “children” who need to be disciplined, but haven’t been, partially because the town is made up mostly of Hispanic Democrats, one of the most powerful political groups in New Mexico.
However, just because Salinas and Aguilera are behind bars for the moment, that doesn’t mean the story is over. ABC7 KVIA New Mexico reports that two more are wanted in connection with the extortion:
Amy Orlando, 3rd Judicial District Attorney for Southern New Mexico, said city-works director, Dario Hernandez, and a city Human Resources temp, Martah Alonda Lozano are facing charges of conspiracy and tampering with evidence.
“They are coming, get rid of the video,” is what Dario called out to Aguilera when police stormed Sunland Park City Hall on Tuesday according to an arrest affidavit obtained by ABC-7. The affidavit also points out that police confiscated Aguilera’s computer during the search, and found the video of Sunland Park mayoral candidate Gerardo Hernandez with a topless woman was being manipulated with editing software.

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 3:36pmI am sorry, but I am beginning to feel the same way about the Hispanics as I do about the Muslims, that there are SO MANY of them that have bad values, that they are overwhelming the few decent, and those few are intimidated into not speaking up. We can no longer allow bad conduct and give it a pass because it involves minorities. The racism thing isn’t going to work anymore either. We need to bring back and support law and order and Judeo-Christian values and make sure the laws are ENFORCED.
