‘Yarn Bombers’ Strike Big Blue Bear Outside CO Convention Center

Call them “yarn bombers,“ or ”crochet graffiti artists“ or ”street artist crocheters,” but whatever you call them, a group of crocheters hit another downtown artwork Monday morning.

When Airtracker 7 flew over the Big Blue Bear sculpture outside the Colorado Convention Center, viewers spotted a large blue ball and chain attached to the bear’s leg.

By 6:45 a.m., the yarn artwork was gone.

Six people from a group calling itself the Ladies Fancywork Society created what they call, “Slave to the Craft.”

It took the group two months to create the chain and the giant 8 foot ball, according to “Lucy,” one of the group’s members.

Lucy said the project took about 15 miles of yarn and was created by crocheters in Denver and Amsterdam.
