‘You’re Not Understanding’: Dem Congressman Lectures Fox News Anchor on ObamaCare Waivers

If the plan for overhauling the nation’s health care system is such a good thing, why does the federal government need to dole out waivers?
Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., appeared on Fox News Wednesday morning to discuss efforts in the Senate to repeal the law when the conversation steered the question of waivers. As we’ve reported, 733 different organizations have applied and received temporary waivers from the law’s requirements from the Department of Health and Human Services. Assuring FNC’s Martha MacCallum that her characterization of the waivers was wrong, Weiner tried to explain why federal waivers to select companies and unions are a good thing:
“These are organizations — and, like you said, they run the gambit from big businesses to big union — who already have health insurance, have gone to the federal government and said, ‘Listen, our standards are high enough.’ And the federal government has agreed.
“The mythology here that this is a big government thing is… the example of how many people have been waived from the requirements is an example of that,” Weiner said.
But MacCallum challenged him, saying that everyone agrees the health care system needs reform. But why would some companies need to be helped out of the new plan if it’s such a great plan?
“It’s not a plan,” Weiner said. “It’s a set of standards.”

Posted on February 2, 2011 at 9:55pmWe need a class action suit against these waivers. It is like saying the law will only apply in states X, Y, and Z but states A, B, and C are exempt. This is unconstitutional, folks. UNCONSTITUTIONAL. You cannot have a law for some and exempt others! Why aren’t our conservative legislators screaming about this? What adds salt to the injury is the fact that the waivers are being given to groups/organizations that fought to pass the legislation. Outrageous!

Posted on February 2, 2011 at 11:32pmUnbelievable indeed. So his logic is because these companies have a set standard that they are exempt from the Obamacare standard? If their standard is good enough but obviously not meeting Obamacare standards, why are the standards of Obamacare so high that it requires waivers? If these companies exceeded the Obamacare standards they wouldn’t need waivers. They only need waivers because they fail to meet those standards. Sometimes I wonder how a politician’s mind works….

Posted on February 2, 2011 at 11:02pmEvery waiver is because if they were required to implement the Obamacare plan would increase their costs because of the “free” preventative care and the “kids on parents plan until they are 26” requirement. Oh, and who would have thunk it was the Unions who were first in line with the waivers? Hmmmm. Isn’t that curious?
I just want to know what idiot believes you can give out Doctor’s time and materials and somehow that is “free”.
85% of Americans (the ones paying for their own healthcare) are happy with their care and the cost of their care. But we are being forced to pay for those who don’t choose to put “skin in the game” (the President’s words) and who we have learned are unconstitutionally required to buy insurance.
This is a recipe for failure. Epic Failure.

Posted on February 2, 2011 at 11:10pmEvery time I’ve seen Weiner talk to a woman reporter he’s been condescending and rude. He is a misogynistic, ignorant, classless little punk who has the manners of a three year old. Regardless, 70% of every tax dollar spent on welfare programs by the federal government goes to maintaining the bureaucracy that administers the program and 30% goes to the needy people who these programs are supposedly helping. When donating to charities, the guideline is to only donate to charities that spend less than 30% of receipts on operating expenses and 70% on actually helping the needy (90% / 10%, respectively, is ideal). If Liberals, like Weiner, were really concerned about helping the needy and not about grabbing power to satisfy their Napoleon complexes, they would make it easier for non-profit organizations to help people who can’t afford insurance.
