10-Year-Old Sensation Delivers Rousing Rendition of National Anthem at NBA Finals

Last night, I decided to turn on game two of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. I tuned in early, since the game started at 9 pm ET on the East Coast. And I’m glad I did.

While watching the pregame festivities, I happened to catch 10-year-old local singing sensation Julia Dale belt out one of the best renditions of the National Anthem I’ve ever heard. It gave me goosebumps.

And apparently others felt the same thing. The Palm Beach Post reports:

Her rousing rehearsal three hours before tipoff not only brought a halt to all action inside AmericanAirlines Arena, but also led ABC’s director to request that she do it just like that again for real, because he was going to make sure she was part of the national telecast.

Here’s 4-feet tall Julia singing with the heart and voice of a 33-year-old:

Someone tell Christiana Aguilera that that‘s how it’s done.

should “WATCH the ”VIDEO“ of this ”BEAUTIFUL~YOUNG~GIRL“ that did an ”HONOR“ to her ”COUNTRY,and at the FINISH,she “BOWED~GRACEFULLY.

Come on folks. To the ones who criticized her, for a 10 year year old she did a MAGNIFICANT job. She does not deserve even one little criticism. Remember, she is ONLY 10. What a wonderful, heartfelt, rousing, give you goosebumps job she did! The Lord has blessed this child with a great singing voice. May the Lord bless her and keep her close to Him. “Every knee will bow and every tongue confess”

Pretty much every note is flat. Not to mention she yells portions of the song, not sing. I don’t think sensation applies to this young lady.

She sang it like a black girl no offense…to many vowels that dont exsist in the song. The commentary did not help either….nevertheless impressive.

I’ll bet there is a reason for the exagerated make-up….distance. Ever notice how folks in a live play almost put on clown make-up? Same principle here….. and someone knew it. She appears delightful…and did the Anthem justice.

Yes very nice. But I am so tired of little girls behind made up by their parents to look like 20 year olds.
And how about people start singing it without all the extra syllables?

    Now this will bring chills:

My user name speaks of this. while being musically expressive, this sweetheart is in for some big time vocal problems. Vocal nodes, vocal hoarseness, vocal exhaustion. I would like to hear more of her when she is older but this way of singing could be damaging for a developing body/vocal structure. look.

She sings it great and sounds pretty good. However, I would love to see her parents training her on this stuff, her voice sounds like it‘s been under a LOT of stress and I wouldn’t be surprised that whoever is teaching/training her winds up blowing out her voice before many more years pass.

What a refreshing thing to hear the national anthem sung correctly! She didn’t use it as an audition for a music contract (by showing her ability to mutilate/gospalize the back end). Great job!

JOENY, I disagree with you in that this performance was sung correctly. But it was sung more correctly than usual, and she sang with skill. Had too much soul and gospel. Our national anthem is a hymn, which doesn’t mean gospel style is correct.

      1. why is she wearing lipstick?
      2. I hope that she doesn’t learn from Hannah Montana or Charlotte Church on how to behave once being “discovered”

I have problems with this. Rather than honoring the country, our National Anthem is being used showcase the talents of performers. Ask yourself this after listening: was the focus of the video on her performance and talent… or how a talented 10-yr-old loves and honored her country?

As a nation, we’re missing the boat.

Obama tried to use “God Save the Queen” as Hollywood-style background music to his toast to Queen Elizabeth II last month. Rather than honoring Her Royal Highness, he created an international incident, showing off his unchecked ego and personal need for self-aggrandisement. It was embarrassing on a magnitude of a Leslie Nielsen comedy routine that makes you want to leave the room until it’s over.

Both this girl‘s performance and Obama’s faux pas highlight a deeply-troubling national myopia: self has become more important than country.

Remember JFK’s Profiles in Courage? How about virtually anything Ronald Reagan? Or Sarah Palin’s simple and genuine love of country? We need it back. Now.

We need country before self… or else we’ll lose both.
