Armed assailants invaded a drug rehabilitation clinic in northern Mexico late on Sunday, killing 11 people and wounding at least eight, Reuters reports. The deadly attack comes almost exactly one year after 13 were killed in a similar shooting at a different rehab clinic in the same city.
The assault took place at roughly 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Centro de Rehabilitacion Tu Vida Sobre La Roca A.C. in northern Torreon, located in the border state of Coahuila – about 10 minutes from El Paso, Texas.
Gunmen apparently stormed the drug treatment center and opened fire on the people inside. Officials say the attacks on rehab facilities seemingly target drug traffickers who are using the centers to distribute drugs on a rival’s turf, Fox News Latino reports.
In an almost identical attack, on June 7, 2011, armed gunmen killed 13 people at a different rehab clinic in Torreon.

But the most recent attacks are part of a long list that suggests rehabilitation centers in Mexico are no longer safe for innocent bystanders.
Fox News Latino has more on previous attacks on rehab clinics:
Armed men attacked the Anexo de Liberacion y Adicciones treatment center on Dec. 5, 2010, in Ciudad Juarez, a border city in Chihuahua state, killing three people and wounding seven others.
At least 10 gunmen went into the clinic and opened fire, officials said.
Gunmen killed 13 people on Oct. 24, 2010, at a drug rehabilitation center in the northwestern border city of Tijuana.
The attack occurred at the El Camino treatment center in east Tijuana, which is in Baja California state.
Nineteen people were killed and six others wounded in an attack on a drug rehabilitation center in Chihuahua city, the state capital, on June 11, 2010.
Gunmen killed 18 people at a drug treatment center located two blocks from a police station and the Santa Fe international bridge in Ciudad Juarez, which lies just across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas, on Sept. 3, 2009.
Police say the attacks are linked to Mexico’s brutal drug war, which has claimed the lives of about 55,000 in less than six years. No drug cartel had claimed responsibility for the assault as of 9:30 a.m.

Posted on June 6, 2012 at 1:25amI was talking to someone the works close to and on the border and they were saying that the cartels with gun are crossing into the US unchallenged. With the Eagle Ford oil drilling going on in south Texas there are a lager number of people that see this on a daily basis and have called out border patrol numerous time. They said they stopped coming out after the border patrol got in to a gun fight with the cartel. These witnesses said it useless to call the border Patrol because the no long respond to the crossing of armed men into the US.
I wish some one would go talk to the people on the Texas border and set up cameras to film these crossing and show just how bad it is here. I am about 140 miles from Lerado Tx. And Lerado is one of the biggest hot spots in Texas due to the I35 corridor. It is war south of here on the US side but no one wants to say anything. And the sad part is its easy to catch and record these crossings but the Fed and Unions minding men that run the DHS don’t want there people getting hurt so the pull them back off the border or prevent the agents from responding or going into these areas.
I’m asking The blaze to do an investigative story and sit on the roads or set up cameras to show this is happening or ask anyone that is on the boarder that sees this to do so as well. Post is on You tube if you have to.

Posted on June 5, 2012 at 11:04amEfforts on THIS SIDE OF THE BORDER need to be focused on PREVENTION and REHABILITATION. Take away the demand and the supply side fizzles.
Report Post »The LAST thing the United States needs to do is get MORE involved in a very corrupt Mexican Gov.’t. Sorry, but Mexico is NOT our problem. United States citizens who do illegal drugs ARE OUR PROBLEM!

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 8:03pmIt would seem that we need to have our troops back to help our Mexican neighbors neutralize this mess; they’re needed here a whole lot more than the Afghans & Pakistanis need them… It’s time for Janet to stop with the lighthearted joking about border safety and be held accountable for her criminal negligence. The challenge for her to stand unprotected on our “safe” border is only met with disdain – she gets paid for doing what we’d get fired for. Another member of the regime with a “cauterized conscience.”

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 4:24pmMost Mexicans are Indians and mestizos. Some Spanish live there but the majority is Indian and Indian mixes. These people are 3rd world to the core. They cannot handle any form of self government. They are typical of 3rd worlders. A dictator will have to emerge in Mexico that will handle the narco situation and win it. A democratic government in Mexico is too weak and too corrupt to do anything. Hide and watch.

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 5:12pmEthnicity has little to do w/competence at governance. Mexico has the framework for democracy, but it has yet to be put into practice. It has a ruling oligarchy that refuses to share OPPORTUNITY w/the avg citizen. It funds education only thru 6th grade; after that, your family pays to put you thru high school. The state tells you if you rate going further and which track to take – vocational or university.
Some of this can be laid at the feet of the Catholic Church which stresses corporate over individual efforts which drove the “Protestant work ethic” and the economic engine of Protestant dominated countries or regions. It’s no surprise that the Industrial Revolution took off in England and northern Germany and then across the “Pond” to America. It is a successful export only in places where the gov’t permits individuals to express themselves as inventors or entrepreneurs.
Mexico’s oligarchs have refused to open up opportunities to the rest of Mexico. Hence you have the cartels as an opposing force. You also have the best and brightest immigrating to America for a chance at a better life/opportunity. The apples in your refrigerator could have been picked by a Mexican w/a viable MD degree who could not get a practice going for lack of opportunities in his own country.
The current situation in Mexico rivals a civil war. It pits the gov’t oligarchs against the cartel oligarchs w/the vast majority of Mexican nationals stuck in the middle.

It’s a pity that Mexico does not have a 2nd Amendment. Armed citizens are less likely to be victims of random violence.

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 3:07pmBeing the guy I am, I just can’t believe any of these reports of hangings, rapes, hackings or mutilations right on our border. Why?
Janet “Big Sis” Napolitano tells me that the “border is more secure than it has ever been.” By golly, I for one believe her. She just stirs my warrior spirit and I’d follow her into hostile territory any time.
How about it guys? Let’s have a big HOOOZA for “Big Sis.” (Just don’t allow your daughters to attend that rally that DHS is holding in her honor. Know what I mean?)

Yeah I feel so happy that Janet Nep. has declared that 50,000 dead doesn’t effect us even though many of us have friends their and these druggies are dragging in mohommedist terrorists. Who does she think she is kidding?
Demand her firing, charge her with Treason , Sedition, sabotage.
High crimes and misdemeanors is a phrase from Section 4 of Article Two of the United States Constitution: “The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Report Post »“High” in the legal parlance of the 18th century means “against the State”. A high crime is one which seeks the overthrow of the country, which gives aid or comfort to its enemies, or which injures the country to the profit of an individual or group. In democracies and similar societies it also includes crimes which attempt to alter the outcome of elections.

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 1:32pmMany people say “oh that will never happen here in America” or “that’s Mexico’s problem” Guess what America? It’s here and it’s only a few miles away. If six day care centers or senior centers were attacked here on American soil and local law enforcement had no way of stopping it I’m sure the left side of the isle would be screaming for more law enforcement.
The drug cartels are like a flash flood, there is very little one can do to stop it.
They are terrorist with power and money.

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 12:58pmDon’t worry…..border enforcement is “working”…Nappy with DHS said so. Yet how well is it “working” if our neighbor Mexico is falling into chaos? Mexico obviously is too corrupt to “git ‘er done”, so we need to militarize our border, and have a ROE to shoot on sight any suspected armed smuggling activity…PERIOD. Moreover, we should be conducting training on all our drone capabiliities in defense of our own border from this violence, and use it to stop drug and human trafficking. The SW desert is an ideal climate to train for the War on Terror that is focused on the Middle East, and I believe all basic training should include some time protecting our nation against all enemies foreign and domestic.
