Two Russian Bombers Caught Invading European Airspace

Two Russian Tu-95 Bear strategic nuclear bombers were found last week entering European airspace without permission. And it’s not the first time this year.

The planes entered the airspace forcing two Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16s into action last week.

According to Defense Tech, the Russian’s fleet is made up of Tu-95MS that are designed to carry Kh-55 air launched cruise missiles, which can carry nuclear and non-nuclear weapons with a range of more than 1,800 miles. Defense Tech goes on to state that it is unclear from the video (below) if the tail guns are pointed upwards, which it notes would be “common practice from the Cold War meant to clam the nerves of NATO pilots sent to escort them.”

Gizmodo has more:

The Russian authorities have not given any explanation about these bomber flights, but they keep testing the waters without seemingly caring about the consequences. NATO is limiting itself to escort them out of the airspace but, according to Ares, this is already the fourth time that NATO has intercepted Tu-95 over European skies in 2011 alone.

You can watch the video of the incursion below:

keep moving folks, nothing to see here.russia has been testing nato‘s defense’s for the last 50 years by doing this.besides, these old cold war relics are a joke anyway.if ya check them out,you may find that they look kinda familiar, thats because the bear bomber is based on the W.W.II B-29 bomber.one made a emergency landing in russia during the air-war over japan in 1945,and they reversed engineered it to suit there needs.they russians have never really been very inventive.they rather steal stuff than come up with there own design.

Come on people. The music is the only part that catches your attention? How about the fake heads up display placed over the video? Fighters do not look sideways as they fly by an aircraft. The heads up display or gun cameras would be filming head on. These were videos that appear to be taken by a a back seater who filmed the aircraft as they flew by it after merge. This is fake. Look past the hokey music.

weeblewacker1, you are right in a sense, that the Bear and the B-29 have something in common. Yep… they both have wings. But to say the Bear is reverse engineered from a B-29 is idiotic. Too idiotic even for me to waste my time spelling out all the distinctions.

      @MONICNE

I like how you know soooo much, but then conveniently forget that their is video, audio, and logged flight hours of all the Fighters that were scrambled that day. The difference is these Dutch F-16‘s weren’t searching for a needle in a hay stack and the Bear‘s weren’t changing direction and heading back where they came from. Nice try though.

      http://www.richard-seaman.com/Aircraft/Museums/Monino/Highlights/index.html
During world war two, three American B-29 Superfortress bombers landed on separate occasions in the Russian city of Vladivostok, unable to return to their home base because of battle damage or mechanical problems. The Russians, who weren’t officially at war with Japan, interned the aircraft and their crews, who were later allowed to “escape” back to their own forces. The aircraft remained in Russia and Stalin ordered the Tupolev design bureau to reverse engineer them, resulting in the Tupolev Tu-4 which you see here, which was assigned the NATO code name “Bull”. About 1200 Tu-4s were built, some of which were supplied to China which used them until the late 1960s.

Sun is at the correct position for the time displayed, compass headings are correct, Speed is accurate for a Bear at the upper end of cruise.

You can see the reflections of the pilot as he watches the russian, his head tracks the plane, and his reflection is performing flight actions typical of the F-16, the canopy is definitely a 16, but more, the curvature is a little steep, I am pretty sure it‘s one of the Fokker license built BM’s of the 322 sqdn.

      Great video.

Oh, and the tail guns are in a horizontal position, not skyward.

Just because someone overdubs the audio to conceal likely classified communications does not mean it’s fake. Get a grip, and properly examine the whole picture before shooting off your mouth like a fool.

Actually it was the TU-4 (Bull?) that was the reverse-engineered B-29. The Russians painted a number of these a/c in U.S.A.F. markings and used them on photo-recon missions over Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan (ROC). The Soviets liked the B-29′s cockpit layout so much, that they actually used the layout on several of their ’50s-’60s vintage a/c.

I remember a time when NATO a/c intercepted Soviet snoopers maybe 100 miles out and escorted them away from a member nation’s airspace. RAF Lightnings and USAF F-4 Phantoms routinely flew alongside TU-95s flying from the USSR to Cuba; some verbal communications were made, but most communications were hand gestures, which got the point across.

Weeblewacker1, you call Russia’s bombers antiquated? There is a reason why they keep flying these planes, my friend. And they keep them in tip top operable order. Bet you’ll even find World War II analog instruments onboard these planes, too. Again, there is a reason why. And if you doubt what I’m about to say, try to get yourself a copy of Jane’s Defense weekly and their analysis on EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) Detonations. Educate yourself before you open your mouth. :) Russia and China no very well that in the event of a nuclear war, all electronics (solid state (digital)) equipment will fry. Our planes which use the sophisticated solid state equipment will drop fro the sky and or fail to take off. I’m sure the DOD has developed plans to avoid this, though. Hopefully they’ve harden our equipment to protect it from EMPs. But I digress. Please educate yourself before making any assumptions, please. Thank you…. :)

You quote a great man in General Patton. I’ve studied enough history to know that Patton was right in his insisting that the Allies deal with the Soviet Union right after the fall of the Third Reich. We had the momentum, the leadership in the field and we could have easily conscripted all the German POW’s taken during the war to fight against the Bolsheviks. Not too mention, we had The Bomb. Just imagine if we put Stalin & CO six feet under and set free the Russian people: No Cold War, no Arms Race, no Cuban Missile Crisis, and maybe even no Korean or Vietnam wars. Patton was right, but no one had the balls to listen. Now look at Russia today. IMHO, more of threat now then they ever were before >.<.

You are right on. WALK SOFTLY AND CARRY A BIG STICK. For one thing, all this will come to a head soon. Read the book of Revelation. We know who Gog and Magog are. And we pretty much know all the players. The problem for TechEngineer11 is that we know who is gonna win. NO ONE. You, and those who do not know the Lord, are gonna die or hide – one or the other. Good luck with that.

If you think it’s a fairy tale then you must be dumber than a box of rocks. The Bible has been in existed for a very long time, yet all its prophecies have come true EXCEPT the Rapture part and the 7-year Tribulation, which you probably don’t believe anyways, which is ok, too, because the Bible also states that YOU WON‘T BELIEVE IT until it’s too late.

Get your affairs in order, people. Those who are ready (those who serve the Lord) see it all playing out EXACTLY as the Bible has forewarned. If you doubt it, try reading the Bible again, this time with an open mind. Don’t forget, IT IS THE DEVIL THAT DOES NOT WANT YOU TO BELIEVE IT. It is the devil that wants your soul for eternity. It is the devil who will lie to you and trick you. So, whatever you decide, AND, IT IS YOUR CHOICE (free will), remember this one thing:
If I am wrong about the Bible and you are right that I am looney, then neither of us will have lost a thing. Life will go on.
However, if I am right and you are wrong, then you will have lost everything, including your soul.

They are centraly located to all of their enemies. They are doing the same thing in the Bering Straits on the coast of Alaska. With the costt of oil being what it is. Russia is flush with money and is eager to reclaim it’s place on the national stage. To all my brothers and sisters who think we dont need to spend so much money on defense. Our enemies are watching and waiting. We have allowed our military to atrophy. It will be interesting to see who complains the loudest when we get our butts handed to us in the near future. Mock me, laugh at me, call me a fool. Mark my words well. If we dont pull our heads out of our butts and balance the budget. Cut the size of the government and get our house in order. The Russkies were flying to those planes the first time I went over seas in the Navy. They were used for reconaissance then – 1974. Be that as it may, the know they aren’t likely to get interference from Eurabia, and they know damn well they won’t get any from America. They have nothing to fear from the US for two main reasons. 1) Barack Ali Bama is lacking the cajones to do anything and 2) they can reasonably believe the congress is too busy trying to figure out how to gut the military to do anything. Russians are invading air space and the Chinese military is approaching to the sophistication of ours and the commiecrats, plus rhinos, are working to downsize and gut the military. Sure makes sense to me.

With Obama’s record of being the “Wussy in Chief”, those folks are once again seeing how much they can get away with. Those of us that remember Ronald Reagan know that he wouldn’t have stood for this and the Ruskies know that too.

Obama with all his crap about establishing dialog has made the world a more dangerous place, not a safer one. That is the basis of why, since WWI, it has been in our National interest to stand up to imperialist, aggressive foes of democracy.

The use of Predators is fine but good ol’ fashioned carpet bombing leaves nothing to chance. The MOAB does wonders to terrain also. Must see:

The Russians want you to think these are antiques. From the outside they look like it, but INSIDE what does it look like? These bombers were designed to carry large payloads.

You can only do so much with rust prevention…The US began such a program for our war planes and you simply can’t get it all. At some point it costs more to repair and replace than make new.

And with everyone saying take down DoD (Budget Reduction)…it will get only worse…fewer flight time hours blah blah blah. You should see some of the dilapidated homes on the bases. Yeah, we are right there with the Rooskies.

Now what you have to worry about is what they are doing in their skunk works program…We had our turn at skunk works and it was a good thang…costly but good for the USA. Pretty sure Russia is keeping up with same or similar effort.

They showed us their right hand but we don’t have a clue as to what their left hand is doing…the the Russians know Obama is taking apart the US on regulation at a time, one EO at a time.

It really doesn’t matter how sophistacated these old hunk-a-junks are – they can carry nuclear weapons with a range of 1,800 miles… all they have to do is limp into range and fire. I’m sure they are testing thier range of resistence to see what targets they can strike in Europe if need be. These planes would not get close on a follow up mission oonce hostilities had already started, but with a nuke, all you need is a well placed first strike anyway.

You don‘t actually believe Putin gives a rat’s ass if the Bear Bomber crews make it back do you? As long as their payload is delivered, that’s all that matters. They crews will receive posthumous “Hero of the Soviet Union” (although the ‘union’ is a has-been) medal and grieving families will have to sell them for a cup of coffee (or shot of vodka).

Russia is just one “taking advantage of a crisis” away from being as Red of Redder than China. Pooty Poot is looking to be the ruler and has for along time. They can not be trusted. What does this President do? He makes nice and gives away our capability to defend ourselves and others against them. Can you imagine how Georgia feels after Russia’s attempt to invade them just to see if anyone would defend Georgia. I repeat they can not be trusted. When it came to getting rid of our missile defense I would have said you first!

Of course they are encroaching onto European airspace. What will the Europeans do about it in the long-run? What will the illegal Kenyan president do about it? Perhaps the black Caucus will send Maxine Waters to Europe to shake her fist at Russia and ask why blacks are not in any high positions there. Maybe the Kenyan and his wife will cancel a vacation they had planned to go on in Moscow. Maybe NATO will free up two planes from bombing Libya to go and back up the Dutch. Whatever happens, obama said he has a plan to deal with Russian encroachment and he will reveal it as soon as he comes back off of perpetual vacation.

Read between the lines. The fact that they still have these means that they have not scrapped old planes like we have. Make no mistake, they have modern equipment. These are just planes they can afford to lose in the unlikely event that any Euopean country grows a set and takes them out.

Do you use Titliest Pro v1x golf balls on the practice range. Probably not because they are very expensive and easily damaged. The Russians are practicing and probing NATO airspace. Probably collecting data on detection times, response times, response procedures, etc… Why would the Russians use top shelf bombers for these exercises, when there is a chance, though remote, that the planes could be lost or damage? It serves no purpose to risk advanced front line bombers on what is basically the practice range.
