130 Bicyclists, Including Occupy Londoners, Arrested During Olympic Opening Ceremony

LONDON (The Blaze/AP) — Police protecting the Olympic Park on opening night said Saturday they arrested more than 130 activists on bicyclists involved in an hours-long effort to breach the park’s security cordon.

Police said they were aware that a monthly protest by cyclists was planned for Friday but ordered the protesters to remain south of the River Thames, to keep them from blocking more than 80,000 ticket-holding guests from attending the Olympics opening ceremony.

The anti-capitalist group Occupy London, part of a global movement that has waged demonstrations against financial institutions and capitalist policies, said some cyclists were members of the movement. They said police cordoned off more than 100 cyclists at one road junction near the stadium as Friday’s ceremony was beginning and held them there several hours.

A Metropolitan Police statement said about 400 to 500 cyclists immediately and repeatedly sought to cross bridges north to the Olympic venue, and scores of cyclists succeeded by breaking up into smaller groups. It said police began arresting the cyclists only after several verbal warnings to leave the area were ignored.

According to the U.K. Telegraph, officers blocked the cyclists’ route as they rode in formation, forcibly removing some from their bikes as they tried to break through the cordon.

“People have a right to protest. It is an incredibly important part of our democracy,” the Metropolitan Police statement said.

“What people do not have the right to do is to hold a protest that stops other people from exercising their own rights to go about their business. That means athletes who have trained for years for their chance in a lifetime to compete; millions of ticket holders from seeing the world’s greatest sporting event; and everyone else in London who wants to get around.”

The Olympics–A Dream Come and Gone

The games have begun! Now, let’s call them a wrap!

The Olympics have devolved into a cesspool of international propaganda, intrigue, and cheating–not to mention a subsidized bacchanalian venue for young athletes who could just as well fornicate on their own dime rather than using the 150,000 condoms (15 per athlete) distributed by the United States Olympic Committee.

Sandra Fluke would be appreciative of the USOC condom largesse but are contributors to the USOC aware their dollars are helping pay America’s Olympians to safely do what they would do even without free prophylactics?

The inspiration for the modern Olympics, the ancient Greek religious/athletics festival dating to 776 B.C., was beset with corruption and so, too, is the modern Olympiad. The chief difference is that today we spend billions staging the events whereas the wiser Greeks back then spent little and benefitted from a suspension of city-state wars, conflicts they resumed soon after the games.

Our conflicts continue during the games.

As for contraception, the naked Greek athletes were on their own but, since they were all male, the chance of procreating with their fellow athletes was less than minimal.

Aside from publicity for the host nation, there are few perks derived from hosting the modern Olympics and the potential financial

Obama counts mainly on the dumbest among us, to keep him in power, if and when the final bus shows up, he will quickly though all these mindless nuts under it. Years ago these were the misfits of our mostly employed society, now they are they are the same , still not working, still not correct and still like a fly in most others people’s soup bowl. The battle between good and evil is coming to your neighborhood soon. Like all the radical left loudmouths, they will be out witted, out gunned and out lasted. Aptly expressed; shut down the shut-downers. They are misguided and bereft of legitimate ‘worlds’ to conquer, as has been the case since settling of the Old West (US) territories. Ergo, the battle of conquest has changed from ground to ideas, and the leftists et al who may believe they have conquered mortal/ human limits are perhaps battling ignorantly in the arena of cognitive dissonance, whereby reality does not comport with their perspective/s, so they _confuse_ self with other, yet press on due to the(ir unacknowledged) human need for liberty, and violate boundaries in the process, thereby attempting to thwart for others that which they cannot (yet) fathom for themselves. Enlightenment is still available for the lost ones, and I firmly believe good will triumph over evil, tho perhaps difficult in the meantime…

Hey Vox give just one example of socialism/communism bringing a population out of poverty. Just one. You can’t because socialism/communism is a failed system, it has been tried before through out history and it always ends the same; with massive poverty, hopelessness, and eventually death. You state that, “My research is done through international news agencies, peer-reviewed journal analysis, and organizational reports.”. So we are to believe that your sources of information are all completely unbiased? Well let me break it down for you COMRADE, all of the sources that you cited lean heavily toward the left. International “news” agencies, colleges and institutions of “higher” learning, and many social organizations are funded by the progressive left and never give the real history of marxism. You have been indoctrinated by the progressive left into accepting their idelogical views and you have the gall to come here and tell us, “You’re getting your news through an obviously ideological site built around the cult-of-personality of a largely dismissed self-described rodeo clown.” You hypocrite!! We have a system of government and an economy based on free market principles that gives the greatest opportunity mankind has ever had! No, it’s that a massive Communist plot has overtaken all other sources of media with the exception of your beloved Glenn Beck.

That 6.9% private sector union figure I cited earlier? That’s probably not true, right? That number was probably made up by Communists? Beyond idiotic! “skimming off the top for them self.”

The company doesn’t generally belong to the workers. The vast majority of companies belong to a single person. They are the small gas stations and bakeries and other small industries. Who exactly do the profits go to then? It was the owner who invested their own capital and backside, the worker is there to do a job for a given compensation, not take all the profit which do not belong to him/her. Most business owners work many more hours than their employees, many working 80+hrs per week.

Imagine two college students receiving the same grade for different effort. One parties all day and never attends class while the other studies constantly and helps others to learn more. Why should the studious collegian give up a portion of their A to help the room mates -D only for both to have a C?

What about a sports team? Should the top ranked team in a championship spot their opponent extra points or be required to bench their best player?

You do realize capitalists give more to charity than collectivists could ever imagine?

Exactly what experience do you have with non-unionized work or entrepreneurship? Sounds like none!

Go back to living in your parents basement plotting your overthrow. Better yet, go get a job, live off what you earn, find your God given talent and make something others want or need.

This could be anything , nobody knows for sure what attack could be. but when the goverment purposely or knowingly leaves holes in their security for an event such as this, there likely waiting for something like that to happen. If things really went bad in this country, do you think the bourgeoisie would stick around to work hard for charity and “restore love” like the starry-eyed Tea Partiers in Dallas this weekend?

You think they really care about the future of this nation? Not if it’s more profitable to just move to Singapore instead, like Glenn’s buddy Jon Huntsman Sr.

You better learn to love the proles. We‘re all you’ve got.

VOX: You are brainwashed by your Marxist masters. The words “ bourgeoisie ” is pure Marx and Lenin double speak. And you might want to research why those “capitalists” might move their businesses overseas: often has something to do with high US labor ( union benefits ) costs and high corporate tax rates. Businesses must make profits to pay their workers, repay their investors and pay taxes. If only American schools taught a class entitled “ Running Your Own Business ” you kids wouldn’t be gullible enough to buy into all of this anti-rich / anti- capital hate speech that the international Left is stuffing you with. A sad comment on American education and the Marxist who “occupy” it.

“And you might want to research why those “capitalists” might move their businesses overseas: often has something to do with high US labor ( union benefits ) costs and high corporate tax rates.”

You’ve never bothered to research why businesses are moved overseas, have you? No, of course not, it might damage the narrative you’re married to! Really? Union benefits ruin the cost of doing business in the United States? With a mere 6.9% of the private workforce unionized?

Stop living in your right wing dream world and look at the facts. Unions have been devastated by the government and corporate sector over the past century, yet the jobs are moving out-of-country faster than ever. You really think banning them entirely will bring it back? Gutting the education sector? Denying thousands of potential workers enough access to healthcare to even work?

I mean, sure, if we all chose to literally live in overcrowded factory dormitories with 18 hour work days and pennies for a wage like the Chinese proles at Foxconn, yeah, maybe the corporations would move back. Maybe. Is that what anyone wants?

Why is it that conservatives so strongly love their masters? You’ve been doing it since the Tories sucked up to old King George. Your whole ideology is dedicated to self-slavery, but as long as the word “FREEDOM!” is slapped over it you never know the difference. Your ignorance is tragically beautiful.

VOX: another ironic twist to this discussion is that Lefties are usually all for globalization : that gives jobs and opportunities to undeveloped countries. Yet Lefties rant that capitalists are evil for expanding overseas. Just another example of the goofy, angry , basically just “anti ” American rhetoric of the Left. Any excuse to be angry ..even if the facts contradict one another. Dysfunctional thinking…

“another ironic twist to this discussion is that Lefties are usually all for globalization”

Really? Who do you suppose were the anti-globalization protesters at the WTO “Battle of Seattle” in 1999? Who do you suppose hosts the World Social Forum, who do you suppose makes up the alter-globalization movement? Do you ever think about things before writing them down or do you just type out whatever you feel like saying, regardless of its basis in reality?

“Any excuse to be angry ..even if the facts contradict one another.”

Aaaaaaaaahahahahaha! This is the best one yet! Look in the mirror, comrade! You are a goldmine of quotes Barber, you really are.

The police, in any city where “occupiers” are deficating on police cars, raping each other, throwing molotov coctails, injuring civilians and police alike, need to begin a policy of quietly removing the occupiers from public view to a controlled location, administrating street justice in the form of joint-dislocation and bone-breaking and dumping them outside of the city limits with the obvious warning still quite “fresh” in their minds.

The occupy freaks in America should be arrested.
    We coddle and pamper them.
We just let them disrupt everyone’s lives.

Actually I have to admire the restraint our police show the Occupy usefull idiots; in most other lands they would simply have sent in the army or special police details with guns blazing and permanently liquidated them. Of course, with Obama, I can see that happening as well, say just after the elections, when, if he gets in for a second term, decides to go for broke.

You have to much land, you need to give me some….Now that I have some I’ll have to give some to someone who has none, then you protest the government that took your land that was given to you and they tell you to shut up, but you keep protesting until you are jailed or end up eating lead… Isn’t tyranny wonderful!!!!!

Its the mind set of the occupiers. They want from the 1% without earning it, but then realize that someone else wants what they now have taken from the 1% and they get upset because they have to give some of what they have away to someone who hasn’t earned it. So they protest, etc.
